In the course of winning four games last week, the Canastota softball team outscored its quartet of victims by a combined 67-2, a display that only seemed to get more spectacular with each outing.

The Raiders’ rampage began last Monday, at Sauquoit Valley, where a big second inning led to a 12-0 victory — and that was the low run total of the week.

Liz McGinley and Jessica Patterelli did not need much help as they combined on a one-hitter, but Canastota gave it to them anyway, scoring seven times in the top of the second to put Sauquoit away.

Of the Raiders’ 12 hits, five went for extra bases, as Kaitlin Peryer hit two doubles. Liz Dennis, Alicia Hibbard and Patterelli added their own two-baggers.

Generating even more offense on Tuesday afternoon, the Raiders blasted Herkimer, 17-1, somehow matching the score the baseball team put up at the same time against the Magicians.

Unlike that other diamond game, though, Canastota’s girls took their time, scoring in each inning, the highlight being an eight-run outburst in the bottom of the fifth.

Dennis banged a home run, one of 24 hits on the day, and also earned two doubles. Patterelli found time to set a season mark with six RBIs, as Dennis earned four RBIs. McGinley and Brianna Quaglia each drove in two runs.

Canastota simply kept on hitting, taking its bats to Mount Markham on Wednesday and sizzling through an 18-1 destruction of the Mustangs.

On its way to 20 hits, the Raiders scored in every inning, getting multiple runs in five of those frames to back up McGinley’s five-hit mound effort.

Patterelli doubled, driving in four runs, while McGinley backed up her pitching with four RBIs of her own. Dennis, Hibbard and Myriah Savage each had two RBIs.

Each time, the run total had gone up. And it peaked on Friday, against Waterville, where the power displayed in a 20-0 destruction of the Indians was downright scary.

All of those runs came in the first four innings, 10 of them in the bottom of the third, and it added up to 26 hits.

Dennis pulled off a rare feat, connecting on three home runs before the day was over and finishing with five RBIs.

Pattarelli did even better, driving in seven runs as she had two doubles and a triple. Hibbard and McGinley both earned homers and finished with two RBIs, with Savage also driving in two runs.

Canastota was home Monday to face Cooperstown, this before a Wednesday trip to Sherburne-Earlville and a Friday visit from Sauquoit Valley — all preludes to the weekend Eisenhut Tournament.
