Continuing to establish itself as the OHSL Liberty division favorite, the Solvay boys track and field team swept last Tuesday’s three-way meet with Marcellus and Bishop Ludden.
The Bearcats ripped the Mustangs 95-49, and took out the Gaelic Knights 99-32, behind a series of top individual efforts.
Mike Acchione won a closer 200-meter dash in 23.5 seconds, posted a top triple jump of 38 feet 7 inches, and nearly got a dead heat with teammate Greg Manning in the 400-meter dash, each of them finishing in 53 seconds flat.

On the oval, Mossotti added a 110-meter high hurdles victory in 15.9 seconds. Brendan Holiday prevailed in the 100-meter dash in 11.4 seconds, backed up by Manning and Calvin Howard, who needed 1:03.4 to win the 400-meter hurdles.
Solvay swept the relays. Manning, Acchione, Mike Bova and Alex Nappi combined to take the 4×400 (3:42.1), while the victorious 4×100 (47.1 seconds) and 4×800 (9:06.2) units involved Nappi, Dan Sheridan, Mark Waldron, Jason Maselli, Ben Carl, Tyler Grim and Juan Rivera-Ramos.
In the girls meet, Solvay had no trouble beating Bishop Ludden 117-9, but took a close 69-61 loss to Marcellus.
Christine Armstrong showed her all-around ability, winning four times. She ran the 100-meter high hurdles in 17.2 seconds, then turned to field events, where she was first in the long jump (13 feet 7 inches), shot put (27 feet 4 inches) and discus (69 feet 3 inches).
Katlin Perotti and Maggie Klasen completed a Solvay sweep of field events, as Perotti took the triple jump (28 feet 4 inches) and Klasen cleared 4 feet 6 inches in the high jump.
Solvay also had two relay titles. Amanda Lombardi, Ashley Ramirez, Rebecca Balduzzi and Kim Venuti combined to take the 4×100 (53.8 seconds), while Jessica Goodrich and Lauren Klasen joined Venuti and Ramirez as the Bearcats took the 4×400 relay in 4:37.9.
