Furious at itself for recent poor play, the Skaneateles boys lacrosse team took just three days to regroup.
And when it did, the Lakers found a way to shut down Tully last Monday night, shutting out the Black Knights for long portions of a 7-2 victory.
Tully was 4-0 before CBA beat them — on the same night (April 20) where the Lakers were dealt an 8-7 loss by upstart Onondaga. Both sides were looking to bounce back.
With wind and rain a factor, the conditions were far from ideal, and that played right into the Laker game plan. After surrendering a first-quarter goal, Skaneateles did not allow anything again until the final period.
By that point, Skaneateles was in control, carried there by Jon Dalpos and Devin Lynch. Productive all season, Dalpos stepped up against Tully, fighting through the conditions to produce four goals and one assist. Often, Lynch fed Dalpos, earning four assists.
Jeff Donigan, Erich Pingel and Scott Castle were the only other Laker players to score. Everyone on the Lakers’ defense was in top form, and Josh Kimm turned away 14 of the 16 shots he faced.
It was a bit different Wednesday night, when the Lakers ignored the rain and ran all over Manlius-Pebble Hill in a 20-1 romp.
Other than a first-period tally, the Trojans proved to be spectators as Skaneateles scored eight times in that opening period, then blanked MPH 12-0 the rest of the way.
Lynch finished with six goals and two assists. Patrick Emmer returned to form, scoring four times and adding three assists.
Donigan also had a three-goal outing, as Pingel earned two goals and two assists. Eric Richards, James Allen, Will Kraus, Win Wickwire and Sean Morley all contributed goals, too, as Castle and Matt Wood were credited with assists.
Now comes a big stretch for the Lakers — games against CBA and LaFayette, two state-ranked Class C teams, with a contest against Bishop Ludden in between.
