Morrisville-Eaton’s wrestling team finished right in the middle of the pack at last Saturday’s Section III Class B championship meet at Vernon-Verona-Sherrill.
Of the 12 teams that made it through the snow, the Warriors finished eighth, with 78.5 points, as Phoenix (234 points) held off Holland Patent (215.5 points) for the team championship.
Just one M-E wrestler made it to the finals — and Ryan LeBlanc, at 160 pounds, made it count. He beat Josh Naylor (Cazenovia) with an 18-3 technical fall in the semifinals, then shut out Lucas Wonderley (V-V-S) 7-0 in the title match.
LeBlanc will be a big favorite in the Division II 160-pound category at this Sunday’s overall sectional meet at Utica Auditorium. The winner advances to the state meet March 2 and 3 in Albany.
Rourke Devlin is also going to Utica. M-E’s 130-pound wrestler secured a spot when he reached the consolation bracket final, proceeding to beat Adam Lockwood (Cazenovia) 3-1 for third place.
Alex Meyers reached that same consolation final at 171 pounds, but fell to Chris Virgil (South Jefferson) 12-5 as, in that same round, Ethan Childs fell to Chad Dahlin 3-1. Mike Barker (275 pounds) beat Ken Dean (Skaneateles) 5-2 for fifth place in that weight class.
