When the snow machine stopped for a bit, the Liverpool wrestling team found enough time to grab its piece of the OHSL Colonial National division championship.
That title was secured last Wednesday night, against Central Square, where the Warriors used its strength in the higher weight classes to pull away from the Red Hawks and earn a 43-20 victory.
They started at 145 pounds, and Central Square won two matches and took a 9-0 lead before Jon Jimenez (160 pounds) showed up and pinned Cory Bassett 48 seconds into the second period.
Jeff Oleksak (171 pounds) followed and beat Chad Dixon 15-9, and when Ryan Burns (189 pounds) earned an 18-9 win over Aaron Foster, Liverpool was ahead for good.
Zack Murphy nearly got a technical fall at 215 pounds before beating Brian Carlson 22-9, and Ryan Lee worked at 275 pounds, pinning Marcus Meyers in 1:48. Both Colin Veney (140 pounds) and Matt Sullivan (135 pounds) claimed forfeits.
At 112 pounds, Alex Hathaway began another Liverpool run when he pinned James Williams in 2:33. Paul DeLair (119 pounds) earned his pin over Nate Mayers with 51 seconds left, and Nick Para (125 pounds) beat Kyle Shepard 8-5.
On Saturday, the Warriors come back to Central Square, this time to meet the whole large-school crowd in the Section III Class AA championship meet.
