A deep and confident group of Cazenovia girls cross country runners now find themselves halfway to an OHSL Liberty division regular-season title.
The Lakers, fresh off winning the small-school division at the Baldwinsville Invitational on Sept. 25, dominated again four days later at the Fenner Street complex, beating Christian Brothers Academy 17-43 and overwhelming Hannibal 15-50.
Cazenovia swept the top four individual spots, starting with Rae Tobey as she covered the Fenner course in 20 minutes, 20 seconds.
Hollie Marcelle, in 20:36, won a close battle for the second spot as Malone Gabor was third, one second behind in 20:37, and Jeannette Cudney (20:40) settled for fourth place.
A second group of Laker runners clinched the title, as Michelle Karker led them with a seventh-place clocking of 21:09. Alex Dolbear was eighth, in 21:37, with Margaret Wolsey ninth in 21:49 and Emma Wolsey 10th in 22 minutes flat.
At the same meet, Cazenovia’s boys team earned a split, edging past CBA 27-32, but falling to Hannibal 20-42. Pat Dermody, in a time of 17:04, was second among individuals behind CBA’s Brendan Smith (16:54), with the Warriors taking six of the next seven positions before the Lakers’ Ben Langey (19:02) crossed the line in 10th place.
Both Cazenovia teams will go to Jordan-Elbridge Wednesday for a three-way OHSL Liberty meet that also involves Solvay.
