Jowonio School will celebrate its 50th anniversary with a dinner and program on Friday, Nov. 8 at Traditions at the Links in East Syracuse from 6 to 9 p.m. Jowonio has had many homes during its 50-year history. Individuals interested in seeing the current building at 3049 E. Genesee St., Syracuse can visit at an open house on Saturday, Nov. 9 from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
Jowonio has been a leader in the field of inclusive education for 50 years and has provided the highest quality preschool experience to a wide variety of Central New York children and their families. The school’s mission is to provide model inclusive programs for young children, where diversity is celebrated and all are free to learn and grow. Jowonio serves 190 students from communities across Onondaga County and beyond.
Jowonio is dedicated to creating an innovative educational setting where children of all abilities are full participants and encouraged to reach their potential. The school offers a wide range of therapeutic and family support services, while advocating for the inclusion of all children in schools and society. Students with special needs make up about 40 percent of the student body.
