Before any of them could vie for Section III honors this week, area high school track and field teams had one more busy Saturday of invitational meets to work through.
Jordan-Elbridge, Skaneateles and Westhill each took part in the Cicero-North Syracuse Invitational at Bragman Stadium, with the boys Eagles finishing sixth in the 25-team field, the Lakers (ninth) and Warriors (10th) not far behind.
J-E’s Marion Quigley was victorious in the 110 high hurdles, his time of 15.29 seconds nearly half a second ahead of Carthage’s Tom Albright (15.76).
In the 200-meter dash, Quigley finished third in 23.34 seconds, with teammate Logan Kinney seventh, while in the high jump Quigley again made it to third place, clearing 6 feet.
Westhill gained a victory in the 4×800 relay when Brendan Rewakowski, Will Thornton, Brian Kenny and Dan Washburn went 8:23.38 to beat out C-NS (8:30.19) by nearly seven seconds.
J-E’s Derek Quigley, Lee Jewell, Kenny Williams and Michael Bennick were third in 9:14.84, with the Eagles also having Kinney, Marion Quigley, Nate Williams and Zach Barber get third place in the 4×100 relay in 45.81 seconds.
Ben Helfeld, with a discus throw of 117’5”, edged Evan Ballard (117 feet) for third place, while Helfeld, in the shot put, got fourth place with a throw of 42’8”, while Charlie Doebert was sixth with 39’9 ¾”. Elliot Rouse tied for fifth in the high jump, clearing 5’10”.
Skaneateles got a victory from Nicola Kunz in the 400-meter hurdles, tearing to a time of 58.97 seconds, the only one under a minute as Utica Proctor’s Julio Baker was second in 1:01.87, nearly three seconds behind. Kunz also was fourth in the pole vault, clearing 11 feet.
The Lakers’ Connor Gell was third in the 400-meter dash in a season-best 53.04 seconds, with Skaneateles getting sixth place in the 4×800 (9:49.24) and 4×100 (47.72 seconds).
Westhill did best in the girls edition of the C-NS meet, picking up 30 points to finish fifth as Skaneateles tied for eighth.
Ashley Heffernan gave the Warriors a second-place finish in the 100 hurdles in 16.12 seconds to Liverpool’s Kali Hayes (15.75), and had a second-place long jump of 16’2 ½” as Kaylin Battista finished seventh.
The Warriors’ Angie Mesa-Espinosa was third in the 400 sprint in 1:01.48. Haylei Coolican was fourth in the 2,000-meter steeplechase in 8:10.63, with Liz Kessler fourth in the 1,500-meter run in 5:21 flat
Skaneateles girls sprinter Emme Conan tore to second place in the 100-meter dash in 13.06 seconds behind Baldwinsville’s Lauren Addario (12.97).
Then, in the 4×100, Emme Conan, Grace Conan, Graeson Landsberg and Eva Vitsaxaki went 52.39 seconds to take second place, again with B’ville (50.67 seconds) in front.
Meanwhile, Solvay was at the Clinton Junkyard Relays, and the boys Bearcats won the 4×100 when Brendan Carolina, X’zavier Morris, Allen Cawthon and Justin Scott went 45.86 seconds, the only time under 46 seconds.
Not only that, but Carolina went 21’ ¼” to win the high jump, with Scott in second place by leaping 20’3” as they, along with Justice Shirley, won that event with total leaps of 57’10 ¼”. Solvay finished fifth in the boys shot put and the girls javelin and tire toss.
Allison Dooher and Kyra Crossett both topped 4’6” in the girls high jump to tie Cazenovia for team honors. The Bearcats were third in both the boys and girls editions of the, 1,000 sprint medley, with the Solvay girls third in the 1,600 sprint medley in 5:04.89.
