Baldwinsville — What did you play with when you were young — balls, games, dolls … firetrucks? Or were you one of the gamers dedicating your time to joysticks and keyboards? Whatever you chose, the toys of your childhood helped shape the person you are today. This is why we are dedicating Thursday, Nov. 19, to the 100th anniversary of one of America’s iconic playthings: the Raggedy Ann doll. At 10 a.m. The Friends will host “Through the Eyes of a Child: The Whimsical World of Johnny Gruelle,” an illustrated program on Raggedy’s creator. Then join us again at 4 p.m. for Raggedy’s official birthday party with a special appearance by author/singer-songwriter Patricia Hall who will read from her work and answer questions about the cuddly brother and sister. You’ll also learn how doll faces are designed and have a chance to design your own for take home. These programs are made possible in part by a state grant secured by Sen. John DeFrancisco.
Of course, if Raggedy is not your cup of tea, we can still help you rediscover some of your childhood delights with our books and databases on antiques and collectibles. Or we can help you clue in to more contemporary games and toys with a Wired Wednesday session on digital cameras at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, or our weekly Tech Help Drop-In from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. every Friday. We can even give your kids a boost on the Minecraft craze at our weekly Minecraft drop-ins at 3 p.m. on Fridays.
