Though it couldn’t upend Fayetteville-Manlius, a 10-2 regular season meant a solid second-place finish for the Baldwinsville girls tennis team in the CNY Counties League American division.
It also meant the no. 2 seed for the Section III Class A team tournament, and a bye straight into the semifinals of the six-team bracket. B’ville would face no. 3 seed Cicero-North Syracuse or no. 6 seed Rome Free Academy in the semifinals, with F-M lurking again as the top seed in a possible finals showdown.
That 10th win came in last Thursday afternoon’s 7-0 shutout of Syracuse East, with the Bees refreshed and rested after some early-week rains curtailed the schedule in advance of the start of the Section III team and individual tournaments.
Continuing her preparation for a state tournament return, Kahlei Reisinger shut out first singles opponent Robika Lann 6-0, 6-0, with Alina Minkova using those same scores to roll past Meiling Lee and Jennifer Stone giving up a single game while beating Leeann Allen 6-1, 6-0.
It proved tough in fourth doubles, but Katirina Herbs and Madeline Ferguson beat KellyHuynh and Nyuy Phan 6-3, 4-6, 6-0. Bridgett Brown and Natalie Kot paired up and, in straight sets, got a 6-1, 6-1 victory over QuynhLe and A Nguyen.
Elsewhere in doubles, Marissa Tommarello and Gabby Fiello won a 6-0, 6-1 decision over Mamta Pradham and Kham Hpai. Lauren Dusse and Taylor Slink handled Lillian Truong and Meiling Lee by scores of 6-2 and 6-0.
