At the Aug. 18 meeting of the Village of Liverpool Board of Trustees, Police Chief Don Morris updated the board about recent grants and donations he has secured, totaling more than $17,500.
Grants received from the State Law Enforcement Terrorism Prevention Program have equipped each LPD vehicle with digital cameras, binoculars and flashlights. The funds also paid for the installation of a license plate reader on the department’s new patrol car and for enhancement of security at the Village Hall, at 310 Sycamore St., where police headquarters is located.
The LPD received additional funding from the Onondaga County District Attorney’s Office for the purchase and installation of video equipment for the purpose of recording statements from crime witnesses and suspects.
The town of Clay recently donated money so the LPD could set up a Miles-Per-Hour Industries Speed Trailer which is now monitoring traffic on Oswego Street.
Because LPD Officer David Sturtz is off duty while he recovers from a military injury, the department filled a part-time opening with Onondaga County DA Investigator Peter Rauch, whose hiring was unanimously approved by the trustees.
Three DWIs in July
Morris informed village trustees that officers made 145 traffic stops and issued 152 citations for violations of the state’s vehicle and traffic laws during July. In addition, 10 traffic accidents were investigated and three arrests were made for driving while intoxicated.
Officers made 266 residential property checks during the month while answering a total of 428 complaints and calls for service.
