Gradually, each of the area’s three OHSL Freedom division softball teams found their way back to the field and all of them tasted success.

Jamesville-DeWitt had to wait until Thursday to start again (Tuesday’s game with Mexico was rained out), but it was sharp against Cortland, blanking the Purple Tigers 7-0.

Kerri Keeler pitched a two-hit shutout, striking out 11. She also got four of the Red Rams’ 14 hits at the plate, scoring twice as J-D got all of its runs early, capped by a four-run fourth inning.

Alexis Cantor earned three RBIs, with Maggie Austin, Maddy Devereaux, Erica Siegel and Alyssa Robens each driving in one run.

In Christian Brothers Academy’s case, it meant the return to top form for pitching ace Jordan Sheridan, who spun her first no-hitter of the season last Tuesday in a 6-0 shutout of Syracuse West.

The game was shortened to six innings by rain, but that didn’t diminish Sheridan’s effort. The senior struck out 10 from the combined Fowler-Corcoran lineup and only walked two as he career strikeout total reached 750.

Still, CBA needed runs, and got three of them in the first inning and three more in the top of the sixth as the conditions worsened. Sydney Wind got a pair of hits as Gabby Damico, Annie Carhart and Jen Merola each doubled.

East Syracuse-Minoa returned first, having beaten CBA the week before. The Spartans went to Cortland last Monday and leaned on its bats to beat the Purple Tigers 13-7.

Not relying on any single big outburst, ESM instead pecked away at Cortland with multiple runs in five of the first six innings and a single run in the other. Three-run rallies in the first and fifth innings served as the high points. The Purple Tigers helped out, too, committing 11 errors.

Still, Danielle Ventrone and Brittany Evans each managed three hits, with Ventrone tripling and driving in two runs. Maggie Kelly scored three runs as Michelle Burgun, who drew the pitching assignment, struck out five to make up for the seven hits and three walks allowed.

As J-D was shutting out Cortland on Thursday, CBA and ESM also won, the Brothers turning back Mexico 9-2 and the Spartans rolling past Fulton 12-1.

It was close for CBA against Mexico until it scored three runs in both the fourth and sixth innings to help Sheridan, who struck out 10 and only allowed four hits. Jessica Valerino picked up three hits and three RBIs, while Sarah Roberts drove in two runs. Wind and Allison Magnarelli each drove in one run.

ESM never trailed against Fulton, striking for three runs in the third inning and five runs in the fourth to gain control. Ventrone tripled twice, scored four times and got four RBIs, while Courtney Legare and Nikki Casella each drove in two runs. Evans and Kelly scored three runs apiece.

Both J-D and CBA lost chances to play due to Saturday’s weather, with the Red Rams unable to go to Solvay for tournament games against Oneida (which would have been a rematch of last year’s Section III Class A final) and Baldwinsville, and the Brothers unable to go to Westhill to face Cato-Meridian and Weedsport.

That same weather stopped ESM’s game Friday against Mexico and moved it to May 1.
