Skaneateles indoor track and field senior Carson Schwab is fast emerging as a season-long favorite in the pole vault.
Schwab proved this point by winning his first event of the season during Wednesday night’s John Arcaro Memorial Invitational at SRC Arena.
Having tied Cicero-North Syracuse’s Cameron LaBarge and Jamesville-DeWitt’s Zach Liebmann the week before at the Jack Morse Relays, each clearing 11 feet 6 inches, Schwab gained the most in the Arcaro meet.
It turned into a close battle between Schwab and Liverpool’s Travis Chewning-Kulick. But Schwab edged out in front by clearing 12 feet, three inches better than Chewning-Kulick’s 11’9”. Corey Vollmer (East Syracuse-Minoa) and Noah Paccia (Tully) shared third with 11’.
Elsewhere at the Arcaro meet, the Lakers finished eighth in the 4×200 relay as Dan Stabile, Ari Hristoduolou, Patrick Biver and Nate Wolfanger got a time of 1:43.24. In the 4×800, Biver, Sam Meyer, Cooper Watt and Nick Smolenski were eighth in 9:24.96.
Wolfanger, on his own, got 10th in the 300-meter dash (39.99 seconds) as Nate Molnar was 14th in the shot put with 37’ 3 ¾”.
For the Skaneateles girls side, its portion of the John Arcaro Invitational is not until Jan. 3. Before that, though, boys and girls teams will gather this Thursday at SRC Arena for the Oscar Jensen Holiday Relays.
