SYRACUSE – Each of the West Genesee indoor track and field teams would make an impact during Thursday’s Salt City Athletic Conference Metro division championships at SRC Arena.
The girls Wildcats finished fourth with 43 points at Cicero-North Syracuse pulled away to prevail, while WG’s boys had 53 points, but ended up fifth, well back of league champion Baldwinsville.
It included a win in the boys 4×400 relay where Payton Manipole, Chris Moser, Anthony Edgar and Logan Scott went three minutes, 33.91 seconds to B’ville’s second-place 3:36.29.
Dom Burris, in the 55-meter dash, was second in a photo finish to C-NS’s Davine Bennett, though both finished in 6.67 seconds, Burris also taking second in the long jump with 21 feet 7 ¼ inches as Kev Scott was third in the 300-meter dash in 38.10, with Zach Hann (39.75) in sixth place here and Anthony Edgar sixth in the long jump.
Michael Gomes had a strong 2:38.44 in the 1,000-meter run to finish second behind B’ville’s Solomon Holden-Betts (2:35.65). Kevin Moser took fourth in the 1,600-meter run, with Zyaire Davidson sixth in the 55 hurdles, Will Fettig sixth in the triple jump and Logan Scott sixth in the high jump.
To lead WG’s girls, Peyton Long went 4:59.85, a new personal best, to beat the field in the 1,500-meter run by nearly five seconds as Chloe Feitze was fifth in 5:22.48.
Molly Doran had a second-place time of 7.68 seconds in the 55-meter dash to C-NS’s Marissa Doty (7.57), while Claire Griffin was fourth and Andrea Conklin fifth in the 600. Grace McInerney had a fourth-place long jump of 15’6” and was sixth in the high jump, topping 4’8”.
Doran and Griffin helped the Wildcats take third in the 4×200 in a clocking of 1:50.54. WG was fifth in the 4×400 and 4×800 as Zoe Maupin took fifth in the 1,000-meter run.
A day earlier, Jordan-Elbridge and Bishop Ludden took part in the Onondaga High School League Division 2 meet, also at SRC Arena, where the Eagles finished fifth and Gaelic Knights sixth in the boys standings.
Taysir Briggs won the boys long jump for the Gaelic Knights, going 18’1 1/2”. Shaun Philpot took second for the Gaelic Knights in the 300, his 40.82 just behind the same time from Pulaski’s Zy’Que Johnson.
Blake Sheen got third place in the 600, while Philpot was fourth and Taysir Briggs fifth in the 55 sprint. Sheen, Philpot, Jack Marvin and Cleshaun Lively were second in the 4×200 in 1:45.64 as J-E was fourth.
Alexi Sheen won for Ludden’s girls in the 55 hurdles in 10.34 seconds to the 10.61 from J-E’s Teagan Disinger, while Ally Kerwin was second in the 300 in 45.90. Disinger took fifth in the long jump.Abby Bates finished third in the 3,000, Sheen, Kerwin, Clare Ruddy and Annie Gaughan paired up to win the 4×200 in 2:01.77 as Brynn Marvin took fifth in the 1,500.
Peyton Bates gave J-E a second-place finish in the 3,200 in 10:58.53 and Alex Kunz was second in the 1,000 in 2:50.42. Roanan Ross was third and Porter Ross fifth in the shot put, with Ross
fourth in the weight throw.
