SYRACUSE – Indoor track and field teams from Jamesville-DeWitt and East Syracuse Minoa would compete against each other – and win big – during Saturday’s morning session of the Bob Grieve Memorial Invitational at SRC Arena.
And in the case of the boys Red Rams, it took the team title, earning 95 points to hold off Liverpool (89 points) as ESM was seventh with 43 points.
Hudson Groat won the boys 600-meter run, his time of one minute, 27.71 topping his personal best as teammate Shane Gargiulo was third in 1:31.06.
Then Connor Clarkson won the 1,600-meter run in 4:37.73, another season mark, before helping Groat, Gargiulo and Isaiah Steinberg claim the 4×800 relay in 8:52.79, with ESM seventh in 10:07.71.
In the 4×400 relay, Moujiahid Cherif, Nathan Cottet, Shane Gargiulo and Brayden Rivera were second in 3:42.94 to Marcellus’ 3:41.92, with the Rams third in the 4×200 in 1:37.39 ahead of the Spartans (1:41.55) in sixth place.
Paul Fischi added a fourth in the 3,200-meter run in 10:55.73 as Peter Drew (11:09.10) finished sixth. Emile Antoine was fifth in the triple jump, going 37′ 3/4”, and seventh in the long jump.
Daviel Cruz’s fourth-place weight throw of 45’8” beat out the 45’4 1/2” from Cade Fowler and 44’5 1/4” from Kevin Vigneault. Deacon Enright topped 8’6” in the pole vault for fifth place as ESM’s Michael Ojeda (8 feet) was sixth and Sam Macie seventh.
ESM had Abdi Aden take second in the 55-meter hurdles in 8.20 seconds. Sumit Kadayira get third place in the 55-meter dash in 6.75 seconds, not far from C-NS’s Davine Bennett, who won in 6.70.
Victor Rodriguez was fourth in the shot put, tossing it 38’2” as Vigneault was fifth with 38’1 1/4”. Joe Pedrosa-Garcia took seventh in the 1,000 in 2:49.61, a personal best, with Sol Scofeld eighth in the 600.
The J-D girls nearly won, too, its 120 points just behind the 123 from Cicero-North Syracuse, while ESM’s 60.5 points included yet another school record from Evani McDuffie in the 55-meter dash.
Tearing to a time of 7.23 seconds, McDuffie set that new mark and is in the state top 10 in this event, with J-D’s Victoria Payne third in a personal-best 7.56.
Later in the meet, McDufifie, paired with Kaleigh Maloof, Amber Hayes and Anaharie Anderson, was victorious in the 4×200 in 1:50.24 to edge the 1:50.57 from C-NS as J-D was third in 1:51.50.
Hailey Webber was victorious for J-D in the shot put, her throw of 37’6” in the state top 10 to beat Liverpool’s Allie Cary (36’11 3/4”) as Jillian Webber was third with 32’7 1/2” and Kenna Ridzi was fourth with 30’9”.
In the weight throw, Hailey Webber’s 42 feet trailed Cary’s 42’9”, with Jillian Webber (33’11 3/4”) fifth. Emma Deehan was second and Brielle Rivera third in the pole vault, each clearing 7 feet with ESM’s Elise Mancini.
Nikki Milti won for J-D in the 600 in 1:40.93, a new personal best that topped the 1:42.31 from C-NS’s Sophia Graham as Militi took second in the 300-meter dash in 43.33 seconds, just behind Payne, who was second in 43.26.
Also, in the triple jump, Nina Autry prevailed for the Rams, going 33’10” to beat the field by more than a foot as Maloof was fifth with 32’6 3/4” and Arianna Brennen was second in the high jump with 4’10”.
Norah Kirch, Meghana Reddy, Abiyah Campbell and Madelyn Murphy were second in the 4×400 relay in 4:32.83, with the Rams fifth in the 4×800 in 11:33.98 ahead of ESM (11:35.18) in sixth. Ellyana Deng was third in the long jump, going 15’6 3/4”, a new personal best, to go with a fourth in the high jump.
Rachael Burt was fifth in the 3,000-meter run, with Lilia Pena sixth in the 600. Brennen took fifth (9.74 seconds) and Kaleigh Maloof sixth (9.85) in the 55 hurdles, with Anaharie Anderson seventh in 9.89.
In the afternoon session, Christian Brothers Academy girls runner Mary Sullivan was second in the 3,000 in 11:40.14.
