BALDWINSVILLE — Each year the Greater Baldwinsville Chamber of Commerce (GBCC) honors an outstanding GBCC member who exemplifies the following qualities:
• Business accomplishments
• Integrity
• Business, civic or corporate leadership
The nominee must be a current member in good standing with the GBCC. Partners who jointly own/operate a business or organization may be nominated as a team, so long as the number of individuals in the team nomination does not exceed four.
The GBCC Business Person of the Year for 2021 is Renee Newton, owner of La Tresse Salon + Spa. Newton was honored in an award ceremony held July 12 at BG1.
“Renee goes above and beyond to support the community. … We couldn’t be more glad to present this award to Renee,” said GBCC Executive Director Lauren Russett.
Newton was nominated by MaryAnne Williams, relationship banker at Seneca Savings and former GBCC executive director.
“In the 18 years since Renee opened her salon, she has steadily grown her business and often has the ‘problem’ of more business than she and her staff can accommodate,” Williams wrote in her nomination.
Newton started out renting space for her salon and now owns the building in which it is located. According to Williams, La Tresse has weathered many storms, from a catastrophic water backup in the salon’s former location to the complete shutdown of salons early in the coronavirus pandemic.
During her tenure as a member of the GBCC Board of Directors, Newton helped organize Taste of B’ville and B’ville Big Chill events.
“She will tell you that she is in the business of making people feel beautiful from the inside out, and her goal is that her guests leave feeling happier and healthier after their appointment,” Williams added. “Baldwinsville is where Renee both works and lives, and she gives back to the community that she says has made her business what it is today.”
La Tresse by Renee is located at 59 E. Genesee St. in the village of Baldwinsville. Visit latressesalonandspa.com to learn more.
