The students of the West Genesee chess team recently participated in the Spring Scholastic Chess Tournament held at West Genesee High School on Saturday, May 21.
The West Genesee K-6 team was able to pull off a first place team victory.
The top performers from West Genesee for the K-6 Section were Aidan McCormick and Nikola Jakimoski who scored 3.5 points out of a possible 4; and RJ Schubmehl, Gavin Wheelock, and Azdha Mundath who scored 3 points each. These players totaled 16 out of a possible 20 points to come in first place for K-6 Teams.
Other K-6 participants from WG included: Parley Millar, Chloe Martin, Sartaj Singh, Noah Vetter, Carter Grothier, Khloe Dowdell, Lincoln Millar, Aiden Simmons, Brayden Short, Evelyn Simmons, Brighton Millar, Emilia Pauly, Madeline Best, Connor Barton, and Sofia Khan.
In the K-12 category our top performers from West Genesee were Henry Smith, Tanner Young, and Bryce Walsh who all scored 2 points. Niko McCarthy and Collin Cervino also contributed to the team’s 7.5 point total out of 20 to come in second place for K-12 Teams.
