CENTRAL NEW YORK – In the week where area girls golf teams were all set to plunge into the heart of their respective schedules, a heavy snowstorm caused a rash of postponements.
The one area boys team with a spring schedule, Manlius Pebble Hill, was able to return on Wednesday for a match at Meadowbrook Golf Course, where it defeated the Weedsport Warriors 244-256.
Much of the Trojans’ success was owed to the duo of Tommy and James Wildhack, as Tommy’s nine-hole score of 37 was the best individual effort and James finished with a 49.
On Friday, Bishop Grimes opened against Marcellus, taking a 213-310 defeat to the Mustangs, though Vinny Falgiatano did share individual honors, his 37 matching that of the Mustangs’ John White.
Then girls teams got underway on Thursday and Christian Brothers Academy met Westhill in a tight match where the Brothers lost by a single stroke, 213-214, to the Warriors.
Even through the roster, the difference was that Grace Catalano’s 50 was two behind the 48 from Westhill’s Catherine Dadey. Hana Kang was third with a 52 as Meredith Sommers shot 55, Bella Meade had a 57 and Makenna Schultz shot 61.
MPH’s girls golf team earned a 247-280 victory over Chittenango in its season opener, led by Amitees Fazeli, who shot a 52, ahead of the 56 from sister Parmees Fazeli. Caroline Mezzalingua added a 63 and Rory Beckwith contributed a 58.
Bishop Grimes debuted on Friday and lost, 198-255, to Westhill. Abby Docos shot a 62, one ahead of Althea Simmons and two ahead of Jullianna Jones as Bella Macro finished with a 66. Dadey paced the Warriors with a 46.
