CENTRAL NEW YORK – No one in area high school boys lacrosse had done as well as Christian Brothers Academy, thanks to big wins over West Genesee and Skaneateles.
Looking for more, the Brothers got it Thursday with a 16-3 romp over Jordan-Elbridge where it did all of the damage in the first half, sprinting out to a 13-2 advantage,
Joey Papa, Andrew Kohlbrenner and Seamus Nicholson each had three goals and one assist. Declan Landers and James Stanton both scored twice as Dan Anderson, Marty Fallon and Ben Anderson earned single goals.
Jamesville-DeWitt knows the challenge that CBA could yet provide, but it had its own tests to go through, including last Wednesday’s game against Auburn.
Defense helped push the Red Rams to a 7-3 victory as it shut out the Maroons in the first half, then equaled whatever Auburn produced the rest of the way.
Ian McIntyre was spectacular in goal, stopping 15 of the Maroons’ 18 shots. Gannon Kessler scored three times, with Aidan Bates and Sam Brazell each getting two goals and one assist.
Fayetteville-Manlius was 1-2 going into last Tuesday’s SCAC Metro division opener at Liverpool, where it had a fourth-quarter lead but could not hold on in a 9-8 loss to the Warriors.
The Hornets fought to a 4-3 halftime lead. A back-and-forth second half followed, with Liverpool’s Jaylen Graham tacking on two more goals after he scored all three for the Warriors in the early going.
Down 8-7, the Warriors pulled even when Sacco scored with 6:56 left. Getting the ball back, Liverpool again worked it to Sacco, who putt in the go-ahead goal with 4:06 to play.
The Warriors held on from there, even though. Rob Madden and Louis Cogliandro both netted three goals for F-M, Cogilandro adding two assists as Joe Hathorn had two goals and one assist.
More drama followed Thursday at Skaneateles, but this time it was F-M making the comeback and pulling out an 11-10 overtime victory over the Lakers.
Down 9-6 going to the fourth quarter, the Hornets battled back, tied it 10-10, and prevailed in OT when Cogliandro, off a feed from T.J. Conley, beat Luke Renaud for the game-winner.
Hathorn finished with three goals. Cogliandro scored twice and got a pair of assists as John Angelicola also had two goals. Single tallies went to Conley, Madden, George LaComb and Cooper Penoyer.
F-M suffered another setback on Saturday, falling 13-10 to Cicero-North Syracuse as it was unable to overcome an 8-4 halftime deficit. Cogliandro had four goals and two assists, with Madden getting three goals and one assist.
As for East Syracuse Minoa, it was 0-2 going into last Monday’s game against Central Square, but broke into the win column here, ripping the Redhawks 17-5.
An 8-0 first quarter all but decided matters, the Spartans getting a career-best six assists from Trey Jones as his passes often went to Jackson Palumb and Owen Welch, who each had four goals and one assist.
Jones joined Evan deBerjeois in getting two goals, with single tallies going to Eric Markert, Zach Johnson, Dillon Abreu, Dominic Caruana and Caleb Tedesco.
Another win followed on Wednesday, ESM topping Syracuse City 14-5 as Palumb had five goals and two assists. Jones and Markert both scored twice, Jones adding two assists as deBerjeois, Caruana, Abreu and Logan Welch each had a goal.
In Saturday’s 16-10 loss to Baldwinsville, the Spartans were competitive until the Bees pulled away in the fourth quarter. Jones, with four goals, and Palumb, with three goals, accounted for most of ESM’s offense as Keegan Lynch paced B’ville with five goals and three assists.
