DEWITT – At the very least, local bragging rights for the Cazenovia wrestling team was locked up thanks to its tough Dec. 8 victory over Chittenango.
Three days later, the Lakers found itself in the Red Ram Duals, hosted by Jamesville-DeWitt/CBA, where it would finish with a 2-3 record.
During a 51-15 loss to Indian River, Tallon Widrick, at 110 pounds, was able to pin Logan Matice in 1:41 right after Evan Rutecki(102 pounds) beat Gabriel Whiting 9-4. Blaze Dannon (189 pounds) claimed a forfeit.
Cazenovia topped a short-handed Rome Free Academy 42-21, the only mat victory coming when Ben Decker, at 215 pounds, pinned Chase Dutcher in the second period. Rutecki, Widrick, Luke Rodriguez (118 pounds), Bryce Odessa (126 pounds), Brad Gagnon (145 pounds) and Gabriel Sanchez (152 pounds) all claimed forfeits.
Beating Watertown 48-21, the Lakers got pins from Rodriguez, Sanchez and Gagnon, as well as Kaleb Vazquez, at 285 pounds, pinning Logan Wilson in 66 seconds as Bryce Enders (132 pounds) got a 68-second fall over Schyler Lamark.
During a 57-15 loss to host J-D/CBA, Widrick did pin Jordyn Hill in 39 seconds as Gagnon beat Mason Porter 6-3. And in the finale against Fulton, the Red Raiders prevailed 56-12, though Rodriguez edged Brady Niyer 4-2 and Rutecki got an overtime takedown to top Collen Austin 6-4.
After all this, the Lakers would see this Wednesday’s scheduled match with Marcellus postponed until Jan. 20, but is back on the mat Saturday at Central Square’s Brett Dixon Memorial Duals.
