ITHACA – With Section III records in both sprint races already in her possession, Skaneateles senior Hana Spaulding sought more glory.
Spaulding and her fellow Lakers went to Ithaca College for the Nov. 19-20 New York State Public High School Athletic Association championships, where three top-10 finishes were earned.
Hana Spaulding was the top seed in the 50-yard freestyle, and with a time of 23.64 seconds advanced to the final tied for third.
Improving to 23.62 seconds in the final, Spaulding made it to the podium in fourth place as Horace Greeley’s Sabrina Johnston won the state title in 22.85 seconds.
Going 51.49 seconds in the 100 freestyle, Spaulding qualified sixth for the final, where she posted 51.76 and ended up in sixth place, another podium finish. Olean’s Alexis Trietley was victorious in 50.54 seconds.
And in the 200 freestyle relay, Caitlin Comer and Elizabeth Springer joined Hana and Alice Spaulding to post 1:40.06 and reach the final, where they improved to 1:40.01 and finished fifth in the public-school standings, sixth overall.
Sacred Heart Academy won the Federation race in 1:35.05 and Pine Bush (1:36.88) was the public-school champion.
West Genesee’s Anna Ivery, the school record holder in the 50 freestyle, went 24.62 seconds in the preliminary round and 24.81 in the finals to finish 22nd.
Alice Spaulding was 30th in the 50 freestyle, going 25.21 seconds in the final after a preliminary time of 25.29.
