FAYETTEVILLE – Only one fall boys golf team won every single time it took to the course in 2021.
In 12 head-to-matches and a pair of tournaments, Jamesville-DeWitt proved unstoppable, capping its perfect season by capturing the Section III Class A fall tournament Wednesday at Green Lakes State Park.
The Red Rams finished at 383, comfortably ahead of Oswego, who took second with 408 as Fulton was third with 436, edging Cortland (439) in fourth place.
Wet conditions from early-week rains made it difficult for the 42-player field, but no one did better than J-D’s Jackson Saroney, who shot 72 to claim the individual medal.
Close behind him, Saroney’s teammate, Trey Jacobson, earned second place with a 74, while Punn Chittaratlert tied Oswego’s Neil Roman for third place, each of them posting a 76.
Mitchell Archer finished eighth with an 80 and Ian Delpha got ninth place with an 81 as Blaise Anthis shot 82. All of them advanced to May’s sectional state qualifier at Seven Oaks.
East Syracuse Minoa Blue earned fifth place in the team standings with 449, led by Zach Johnson, who was fifth among individuals as he shot a 77.
Logan Welch posted an 85 to tie for 18th place, with Braedon Smith adding an 89. Aaron Reynolds had a 98 and Zack Harmon shot 100 as ESM Orange’s Jacob Gallipeau had a 128.
By contrast, Christian Brothers Academy, despite its 11-0 record, had to settle for second place in its sectional Class B tournament held Tuesday at Beaver Meadows Golf Club.
With a total of 403, the Brothers found itself trailing the 390 put up by Westhill, even though Joe Nicholson was able to share individual honors with the Warriors’ Anthony Maglisco, each of them shooting three-under-par 69.
Westhill started to go in front when Aidan Ryan and Danny Young, shot 78 to join a large tie for fifth place with CBA’s Jack Gregory.
Then it was Devin Young shooting an 80 for the Warriors, with Luke Gilmartin clinching Westhill’s victory when his 85 equaled CBA’s Jack MacLachlan and Dan Angelo and beat Emmet Kilmartin’s 86.
