BALDWINSVILLE – For most of their lifetimes, the members of the Liverpool girls golf team had to look up at the league standings, but in 2021 everything changed.
Twelve times, the Warriors took to the course, and 12 times it won, capping that perfect regular-season run through the Salt City Athletic Conference Metro division with one of its most challenging matches.
Liverpool traveled to Timber Banks last Tuesday afternoon to face Baldwinsville, and it proved far closer than their first encounter, but once again the Warriors got the best of it, defeating the Bees 177-180.
When they had met May 5 at Hickory Hills, Liverpool claimed it by a comfortable 147-162 margin, but on the longer Timber Banks layout the Warriors leaned even more on the duo of Nataly and Mia Avotins.
Over nine holes, Nataly Avotins earned a two-under-par 34, while Mia Avotins nearly matched par with her 37.
Each of them were ahead of B’ville’s top three golfers as Margaret Dec put up a 40, Colleen Vredenburg shot a 43 and Cara Vredenburg finished with a 44.
It took Ella Foriero shooting a 52 and Jewel Daniels shooting a 54 to help the Warriors hold off the Bees, who had a 53 from Jessica Bylinsky.
Also for Liverpool, Adrianna Shaw shot a 57 and Maddie Turck earned a 65, and with a 12-0 mark secure, the Warriors could look ahead to the Section III tournament, to take place a week later at Kanon Valley.
Cicero-North Syracuse had its Green team take a 219-248 defeat to West Genesee back on May 27 at Westvale Golf Club. Julia Donovan shot a 60, behind the Wildcats’ trio of Maria Bove, Sophia Simiele (51 each) and Leah Corcoran (55).
Then C-NS Green lost Friday to Baldwinsville 191-222, with Andrea Wheaton posting a 51 at Northern Pines to pace the Northstars.
Ashley Evans shot a 56, with Donovan getting a 57 and Mya Ashkar a 58, though they all trailed a top-three sweep from the Bees as Dec led with a 41, Cara Vredenburg shot a 48 and Colleen Vredenburg had a 49.
