Manlius — Fayetteville-Manlius School District art students in grades seven through 12 recently won a total of 159 awards in the 2016 Central New York Regional Scholastic Art Awards competition.
More than 5,000 pieces of art were submitted from approximately 2,000 students in grades seven to 12 in the 13-county Central New York region. Individual pieces and portfolios were awarded Gold Key (highest honor), Silver Key and Honorable Mention.
Twenty-five F-M students won a total of 29 Gold Keys. The very best works are awarded Gold Keys and automatically considered for national-level recognition, according to the
Scholastic Art & Writing Awards web page.
Fifty-one F-M students won 57 Silver Keys – six of those were for eight-piece art portfolio submissions. A total of 53 F-M students won 73 Honorable Mention awards this year. Of those awards, three were for art portfolios.
In addition, F-M student Sophia Hall won Best Painting in Show, which is one of the competition’s Special Awards.
The Scholastic Art Awards exhibition is on display at Onondaga Community College’s Whitney Applied Technology Center through Feb. 26. Visiting hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
