Proceeds from Ella Fitzgerald tribute concert to benefit Brady Faith Center’s “Summer Servants” program
The Le Moyne College Chamber Orchestra will perform “Happy Birthday, Ella!” in celebration of the 100th birthday of the first lady of jazz, Ella Fitzgerald. The concert takes place at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 26, at Skaneateles High School.
The concert will feature multiple works that were hallmarks of Fitzgerald’s career, including “Night and Day,” “Sophisticated Lady,” “It Don’t Mean a Thing (If It Ain’t Got That Swing)”, and many more. The orchestra will also perform popular Big Band works as well as a tribute to frequent Fitzgerald collaborator Louis Armstrong.
Donations will be accepted during the concert (which is free and open to the public), and 100% of donations will benefit the Brady Faith Center’s “Summer Servants” program, designed to bring young people together to serve the city of Syracuse.
Guest performers include saxophonist Joe Carello, vocalist Cathy Butler, and the Skaneateles High School Orchestra, who will perform side-by-side with the Le Moyne Orchestra during the event.
The concert will be conducted by Travis Newton, assistant professor at Le Moyne College, with a special appearance by Karen Veverka, director of the Skaneateles High School Orchestra.
