BALDWINSVILLE – Before it hosts its own dual meet at the outset of Christmas weekend on Saturday, the Baldwinsville wrestling team competed against two Salt City Athletic Conference opponents – and beat both of them.
Of the two, the clash with Fayetteville-Manluis was, by far, the more difficult one, but the Bees were able to get the wins it needed in the late going to top the Hornets 42-30.
F-M took three of the first four bouts, with Brendan Fredenburg, at 138 pounds, breaking up that string and getting B’ville on the board when he pinned Taden Minichillo early in the third period.
At 160 pounds, Nate Cali got his own third-period fall over Tyler Delaney, and Aaron Fredenburg followed up at 170 pounds by pinning Jacob Pavlov in 51 seconds.
These wins, along with Judson Ferris (215 pounds) earning a 43-second fall over Caleb Haase, tied it 24-24 with four bouts to go in the lighter weight classes.
After a forfeit to Brennan Kline at 101 pounds, Cael Bruce, at 108 pounds, pinned Joe Rafuse in the second period, but a loss at 116 meant that Levi Schanzenbach, at 124 points, had to get any kind of victory to help his team prevail – and he did, taking just 72 seconds to pin Graham Dauksza.
B’ville’s match with ESM featured a string of forfeits, with the Bees claiming all four of the contested bouts in a 70-6 rout of the Spartans.
Scottie Warner, in the 131-pound opener, pinned Bryce Oviedo late in the second period. Ryan Heck (145 pounds) got a 66-second pin over Joe Angiolillo.
Davian McElod, at 152 pounds, got a second-period fall over Ari Oveido as Aaron Fredenburg almost had a technical fall while beating Charles English 15-1.
Forfeits went to Cali, Ferris, Kline, Bruce, Brendan Fredenburg, Connor Daughton (195 pounds), Don’Sincere Allen (285 pounds) and Zach Boudreau (101 pounds).
Ten different B’ville girls wrestlers took part in the Dec. 16 Blindmen’s Invitational at North Syracuse Junior High School.
Of those Bees, Arianna Leo (120 pounds) had the best showing, with pins of Cicero-North Syracuse’s Kennedy Leden and Fulton’s Isabella Salotto. At 126 pounds, Haylee Robinson had a 55-second fall over Phoenix’s Gabby Ezman.
A 42-18 defeat to Phoenix followed last Wednesday night, the Bees getting mat wins from Robinson over Brianna Nguyen in 48 seconds and Breanna Leo (185 pounds) when she pinned Bailey Edward in 45 seconds.
