SYRACUSE – Another two days of indoor track and field played out at SRC Arena last week, only this time it was for the Oscar B. Jensen Memorial Relays.
Going on day one, Fayetteville-Manlius again got victories from its distance running stars as it finished fourth in the girls standings with 55 points, while East Syracuse Minoa tied Marcellus for third among boys sides with 57 points, two spots ahead of the Hornets in fifth place.
Nolan McGinn, fresh off his state and regional cross country titles and appearing in the Nike Cross Nationals in Oregon, prevailed in the 1,600-meter run in four minutes, 27.47 second, more than six seconds ahead of the field.
Will Ditre ran 3,200 meters in 10:09.27 to earn second place. Vincent Hunt went 1:29.92 for third place at 600 meters as Will Beecher got eighth place. F-M also finished fourth in the 4×200 relay in 1:46.49 and Jackson Burton was fourth in the long jump, going 18 feet 10 ½ inches, to go with a fourth in the 55-meter dash and seventh in the triple jump.
ESM was led by Joe Pedrosa-Garcia going 2:50.39 for a victory in the 1,000 as Brandon Cerlanek was fourth in 2:56.99 and Austin Gott finished eighth. Pedrosa-Garcia also helped the Spartans take fourth in the 4×400 relay.
Phil Moore’s long jump of 19’7 3/4” put him in second place Aaron Ali earned third place in the weight throw with 44’6 1/2”, a new personal mark, Caleb Byrd topping 5’6” for fifth place in the high jump.
Ryan Sullivan was third in the triple jump with 40’7 3/4” and got fourth place in the 55 hurdles in 8.76 seconds. Victor Rodriguez grabbed seventh place in the shot put and Michael Ojeda seventh in the pole vault.
Over on the girls side, F-M’s Izzie Sullivan, in 4:46.29, won the 1,500-meter run as teammate Camille Ryan was second in 4:54.86. In the 1,000, Claire McDonald won in 3:15.19, a new personal mark, with Ava Beecher third in 3:19.87.
Sullivan added a second in the 600 in 1:43.79, with Maria Khalifeh fourth. Olive Hoover got fourth place in the long jump with 14’7” as Devon Sedlack finished ninth in the pole vault. ESM had Amber Hayes finish second (8.95 seconds) to C-NS’s Anna Eells (8.88) in the 55 hurdles to go with a fourth in the 55 sprint, while Rachael Burt took fourth place in the 1,500 and Jaelyn Jordan was fifth in the 1,000.
Laura Olmstead rose to third place in the shot put with a toss of 27’10”, with Gianna Brilbeck in sixth place. The Spartans were fourth in the 4×400 relay in 4:48.08 as Madelyn Coop got eighth place in the triple jump. Bishop Grimes also took part in the first session, Tahlia Hosea getting fifth in the girls 55 sprint in 7.84 seconds.
Jamesville-DeWitt took part in the second session of the Jensen meet on Thursday and finished second among girls teams with 81 points, trailing only Baldwinsville (91) while finishing fourth in the boys division.
Victoria Payne won the girls 55 hurdles in 9.15 seconds, more than half a second ahead of the field, and Nicki Militi won the 300 in 44.26 seconds, nearly a full second clear of anyone else as Payne (46.72) was fifth.
Ellyana Deng had a second-place long jump of 15’6 3/4”. Skylar Vaught threw the shot put 35’1 1/2” for second place , with Kenna Ridzi third in the weight throw (38’4 3/4”) as Jillian Webber took fourth place in both events. Ridzi added a fourth in the pole vault.
Collectively, J-D finished second in the 4×200 in 1:53.62, with Christian Brothers Academy eighth. Rebecca Mendez Squier finished fifth in the 3,000, while Militi took sixth in the 55 sprint.
On the boys side, Daksh Maini needed 8.57 seconds in the 55 hurdles to finish third, with Hudson Groat third in the 1,000 in 2:46.09 and Will Westpfal third in the 300 in 38.28.
Jaden Addai got third and Nate Cottet fourth in the high jump, each clearing 5’6”. The Rams were also fourth in the 4×200 and fourth in the 4×400 as Deacon Enright was fifth in the pole vault, topping 8’6”.
