AUBURN – A 7-5 regular season was good enough to put the Cicero-North Syracuse girls tennis team into the Section III Class A team tournament, where its stay was a short one.
Auburn, the no. 2 seed, hosted the Northstars in last Monday’s quarterfinals, the two sides quite familiar with one another after the Maroons claimed a 4-3 decision just six days earlier.
Now, at home, Auburn would knock out C-NS 5-2, sweeping all three of the singles matches, with both of the Northstars’ points taking place in doubles.
Kat McRobbie-Taru and Mackenzie Prentice paired up for a 6-4, 6-2 win over Ashlyn Feneck and Samantha Carr, with Jalia Killingbeck and Andrea Iqbal working past Emma Sorka and Victoria Brown 7-5, 6-2.
Auburn countered with Audrey Carr and Alexandra Vitale beating Megan Mieves and Lily Misco 6-2, 6-3, while the Northstars’ duo of Lauren Malec and Addyson Fedele fell to Olivia Schwab and Sadie Morin 7-6 (7-4), 6-4.
Up in singles, Madelyn Shaw fell to Cara Visale 6-0, 6-1, with Calista Nguyen beaten 6-1, 6-2 by Emerson Brown. Maddie Frisch played the other doubles match, falling 6-0, 6-3 to Alice Caruso.
Auburn went on to take a 6-1 semifinal defeat to Baldwinsville, who could not repeat its 2022 win over Fayetteville-Manlius in the finals as the Hornets prevailed 4-3.
C-NS will have singles and doubles players taking part in the sectional Division I tournament early next week as Liverpool will have one of the singles favorites in Angelica Underwood.
