SYRACUSE – Eva Smith continued her strong senior season during the Baldwinsville girls swim team’s meet against Cicero-North Syracuse Tuesday night at Nottingham High School, the Northstas’ home pool.
Swimming in the 50-yard freestyle, Smith won in 25.51 seconds, well clear of the 26.83 from the Northstars’ Leah Benedict. Then she went to her specialty, the 100 backstroke, and tore to a top time of 1:01.39.
Even with this and a 400 freestyle relay where Smith, Olivia McManus, Sage Premo and Caydence Szkotak got a win in 4:14.02, the Bees still took a 95-77 defeat to the Northstars.
McManus provided a highlight of her own in the 200 individual medley, getting a time of 2:30.07 that was less than a second ahead of the 2:30.61 from C-NS’s Molly Gucciardi.
Szkotak went 2:19.50 in the 200 freestyle after a 200 medley relay where Smith, McManus, Mia Rinko and Addy Grosso went 2:04.76 behind the 2:01.73 from the Northstars.
Benedict (100 butterfly, 1:03.66), Kate Gucciardi (100 freestyle, 1:00.29), Molly Gucciardi (100 breaststroke, 1:20.97) and Katelyn Stewart (500 freestyle, 6:21.18) also won for C-NS as B’ville fell to 1-4 before a meet against Skaneateles next Tuesday night.
