ONONDAGA COUNTY – Off to one of the slowest starts in program history, the Fayetteville-Manlius boys soccer team may have started to find its rhythm and its usual winning form.
It all began last Tuesday when the Hornets rolled to a 5-1 win over PSLA-Fowler, a game which was close until the Hornets, up 2-1 at halftime, got away in the late going.
Hugh Terreri’s pair of goals led an F-M attack where Esref Canli and Tyler Koehne both got one goal and one assist. Connot Hutko also scored, with assists credited to Brad Mohammed, Tom Helmer and Sam Relkes.
Then the Hornets beat Cicero-North Syracuse 2-1 on Thursday, Terreri netting one goal and assisting on Harrison Kilmer’s tally as F-M grabbed a 2-0 advantage by halftime.
Jefferson Cazimir’s goal cut the Hornets’ margin to one, but the Hornets preserved that lead and went to Fulton on Saturday, looking to reach the .500 mark.
That didn’t prove too difficult, either, F-M rolling to another 5-1 victory by spreading things around.
The goals came from four different players as Terreri, Harrison Kilmer, Esref Canli and Broc Pinerton all found the net, with assists going to Terreri, Tyler Hutz and Andrew Nocily.
East Syracuse Minoa, who had gone 0-2-1 since a 3-0 start, broke the skid last Thursday night in its own game with PSLA-Fowler.
The 2-1 decision saw the Spartans break a 1-1 tie with the Falcons in the second half and hang on, having seen Joel Alvreaz and Josh Glanton put in goals, with Jackson Tedesco and Arnes Osmanovic earn assists.
Jamesville-DeWitt returned to action last Tuesday afternoon, hosting reigning sectional Class AA champion Cicero-North Syracuse, and led early, but could not hold on in a 2-1 defeat to the Northstars.
Mahir Bechir’s goal, assisted by Emmett McCaull, had the Red Rams in front until a second half where Jackson Petzoldt led C-NS’s rally, netting one goal and assisting on the other, by Dante Melfi.
Emir Hodzic finished with seven saves, but J-D still fell to 3-2-1 heading into Saturday’s game against West Genesee, where again it went cold.
The Rams lost 3-0 to the Wildcats, who jumped out to a 2-0 edge at halftime and seemed to take advantage of each of its rare scoring opportunties. Nathan Quirk had two of WG’s goals, the other going to Logan Scott.
