CENTRAL NEW YORK – Having ended Baldwinsville Red’s 24-match win streak with a head-to-head victory over the Bees at Green Lakes on Sept. 9, the Fayetteville-Manlius Green boys golf team wanted to keep it going.
And the Hornets did not let down at Westvale last Monday afternoon, Will Kettell leading his side to a 193-216 victory over West Genesee Blue.
Over nine holes, Kettell shot a 35, leading a top-four F-M Green sweep. Duncan McDaniel and Dylan Friedman both posted 38, with Henry Will adding a 40 and Cameron Lukasik a 41 to equal WG Blue’s low round by Henry Will.
Easy wins followed over F-M White on Wednesday and Baldwinsville White on Friday afternoon, with a tough 204-211 victory over Liverpool at Green Lakes in between.
The 197-225 F-M battle at Woodcrest saw McDaniel and Friedman tie for first at 37 and Ryder Baldwin add a 39. Aiden Curran led F-M White with a 42, equaled by Kettell and Will, with Owen Baker’s 44 topping a 45 from Nico Capriott, a 46 from Turner Berry and 48 from Grant Rhyde.
When F-M Green met Liverpool, McDaniel, Tyler Burns and Ryder Baldwin each shot 40, but so did the Warriors’ trio of Owen Salanger, Brady Michaud and Owen Michaud. It took 42s from Kettell and Hugh Roddy for the Hornets to win.
In Friday’s action, F-M Green routed B’ville’s younger White squad 209-254. A 40 by McDaniel at Timber Banks led all individuals, with Kettell, Friedman and Burns each posting 42 and Will adding a 43.
Meanwhile, F-M White lost 181-211 to B’ville, with Taden Minichillo putting up a season-best 39 at Woodcrest. Curran added a 42 as Owen Frechette (34) and Aiden Motala (35) paced the Bees.
Elsewhere, Christian Brothers Academy, aiming to stay atop the Onondaga High School League, had a dominant start to the week, routing Homer 195-277 last Monday at Drumlins to start out a stretch of five matches in as many days.
Each of the top six scores against the Trojans belonged to the Brothers, Rowen Lynch leading with a season-best 36. Luke Snyder got a 38, with Emmet Kilmartin and Zach Cooper both shooting 40 as Jack Gregory got a 41 and Luke Petragnani stepped up, shooting 42.
A day later, it was Cortland on the other end of a 195-223 CBA victory at Willowbrook Golf Club. Again Lynch took top honors, his 38 barely ahead of 39s from Gregory, Kilmartin and Eric Lee as Liam White stepped up with a 40.
Meeting Mexico at Emerald Crest for its third match in as many days, the Brothers won again, 203-248, sweeping the top five spots. Gregory had a 38, edging Snyder’s 39, while Kilmartin had a 40, Ryan Hayden shot 42 and Dempsey Horan finished with a 43.
Then, in a Thursday rematch with Mexico at Drumlins, CBA again won big, 200-262, with White getting top honors thanks to his 37, two better than Lynch’s 39.Gregory and Lee both posted 41, with Hayden and Zach Cooper close behind thanks to their rounds of 42.
It all ended at Sunset Ridge Friday, CBA meeting a Marcellus team playing a fall schedule after dominating spring-season competition in recent years.
And the Brothers beat the Mustangs for the second time this season, 207-222. Snyder’s 39 trailed the 37 from Marcellus’ Will Glass, but Kilmartin and Lynch both shot 41, with Gregory getting a 42 and Lee and Luke Petragnani each finishing with totals of 44.
Jamesville-DeWitt won head-to-head over Syracuse City 196-240 last Thursday afternoon, led by a 37 from Michael Anthis. Brian Tollar shot 39, with David Ahn, Jackson King and Vincent Fricone each posting 40.
With J-D absent, East Syracuse Minoa finished third in an SCAC Empire division tournament Friday at Greenview Country Club behind Oswego and Auburn. Aaron Reynolds, shooting a 40, tied for fourth place as Braedon Smith (46), Logan Welch (47) and Jared Bricco (48) also finished in the top 20.
