ONONDAGA COUNTY – Still motivated by its close call against Fayetteville-Manlius on Sept. 1, the Baldwinsville girls tennis team had little trouble in any of last week’s league matches.
The Bees went to Henninger and rolled past the Black Knights 7-0 last Monday afternoon, with the singles trio of Mira Nadzan, Ayla Kalfass and Ella Clary not losing a game in any of their singles matches.
When it came to doubles, Laine Zoanetti and Layla Trendowski won 6-0, 6-1 over Caroline Dang and Gloria Poe, with 6-0, 6-0 shutouts from the duos of Sonia Nadzan-Lainey Nesbitt, Jasmine Rowda-Livia Zoanetti and Aiden Dubois-Carmela Budzich.
After three straight road matches, B’ville was finally home last Wednesday to take on Cicero-North Syracuse and dominated that contest from start to finish, blanking the Bees 7-0.
Anchoring singles play, Mira Nadzan shut out Meghan Obleman 6-0, 6-0. Clary won 6-1, 6-1 over Calista Nguyen as Kalfass worked a bit longer to beat Madelyn Shaw 6-2, 6-3.
It was the same in doubles, Rowda and Livia Zoanetti getting it started with a 6-1, 6-1 romp over Mackenzie Prentice and Lauren Malec as Trendowski and Livia Zoanetti paired to beat Andrea Iqbal and Jalia Killingbeck 6-3, 6-1.
And though they faced more of a challenge, Nesbitt and Sonia Nadzan still won 6-4, 6-2 over Lily Misco and Megan Meives, with Budzich and Juliette Pawelek pairing to get past Maddie Frisch and Addyson Fedele 6-3, 6-4.
Then, facing West Genesee on Friday, B’ville rolled again, blanking the Wildcats 7-0 as, this time around, Trendowski and Laine Zoanetti had to rally past Evelina Mauro and Cynthia Schlenker 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 to preserve the shutout.
Rowda and Livia Zoanetti survived a tough first set 7-6 (7-1), 6-1 over Kailyn Drury and Hannah Sparks as Budzich and Juliette Pawelek paired up to beat Lauren Battaglia and Nicole Vasilev 7-6 (7-4), 6-4.
Up in singles, Mira Nadzan rolled past Angelina Allen 6-1, 6-1, with Kalfass topping Calina Olson 6-2, 6-2 and Clary winning 6-3, 6-2 over Sarah Domin.
With its 4-1 record, B’ville would meet West Genesee again on Monday before its second opportunity to upend F-M on Wednesday afternoon, this time at home.
