CENTRAL NEW YORK – Each of the Christian Brothers Academy track and field teams would record victories during last Thursday’s Section III Class B-1 championships at Camden High School.
Though both of the Brothers’ sides finished with 47 points, it gave the CBA girls fourth place and the boys sixth place.
This included, for the girls side, a victory in the 4×800 relay thanks to the quartet of Claire Krueger, Grace Fletcher, Ally Roueche and Katherine Williamson, who in 10 minutes, 8.99 seconds beat runner-up Vernon-Verona-Sherrill (10:37.90) by nearly half a minute.
On her own, Fletcher prevailed in the 400-meter dash in 1:00.57, edging Westhill’s Isabel Leonardo (1:07.58) by one-hundredth of a second. Krueger took third in the 1,500-meter run in 5:24.70 and helped Roeuche, Fletcher and Liana Thomas get fourth in the 4×400 relay in 4:21.54.
Amazin Spencer earned third place in the 100-meter dash in 13.56 seconds and third in the 200 in 27.87, with Thomas fourth in the 400 hurdles in 1:11.96. Roeuche took sixth in the 800 in 2:33.35, edging Williamston (2:33.46) and Mia Ludington (2:36.52). Mary Sullivan was eighth in the 3,000-meter run.
CBA’s boys got a sprint sweep from Damien Williams. In the 100, Williams went 11.48 seconds ahead of Central Valley Academy’s Logan Hewitt (11.89), and in the 200 it was a top time of 22.35 that was more than a full second ahead of anyone else.
Kyle Gaffney won, too, running 3,200 meters in 10:22.63 to pull away from the field as Ben Chiodi finished fourth in 10:38.49 and Quinten Lewis had a sixth-place long jump of 19 feet 6 inches.
James Cass went 1:03.72 in the 400 hurdles to earn third place, while Xavier Caesar was fifth in the 400-meter dash in 54.15 seconds. Both were part of the 4×400 relay that finished fourth in 3:44.10.
When the sectional Class D championships were held a day later at West Canada Valley, Bishop Grimes finished fourth in the girls division with 65 points and Manlius Pebble Hill was eighth in the boys division with 22 points.
Rosalie Vincent led the girls Cobras, winning the 100 sprint in 13.09 seconds as Telhia Hosea was fifth and, with Vincent, Riley Abernethy and Kierra Baxter, won the 4×100 in 52.36, nearly two seconds ahead of the field.
Later, Vincent won the 200, her 26.55 seconds the only time under 27. Ella Reilly won, too, beating the field in the 400 hurdles in 1:10.35 to go with a sixth in the 800 as Vincent was third in the long jump with 16’1”.
Edy Livingston, in 5:12.90, rose to second in the 1,500, adding a second in the 3,000 in 11:28.50 as MPH’s Tea Hokanson got fifth place.
MPH’s boys were fourth in the 4×800 in 9:07.10, with Brody Cook third in the 400 sprint (54.38 seconds) and Jacob Temes fourth in the steeplechase to go with a fifth in the 1,600.
Sun-Jin Shah got fifth place in the 800 as Grimes’ Greg Docos was sixth in the 110 hurdles and the Cobras were third in the 4×400 in 3:50.03 to the Trojans’ fourth-place 3:51.22.
