BALDWINSVILLE – A busy weekend of track and field included Cicero-North Syracuse senior Kate Putman emerging victorious during the 800-meter run at the prestigious Glenn D. Loucks Games in White Plains.
Amid a field of more than 50 runners last Friday, Putman would, in two minutes, 6.50 seconds, set the meet record and beat out Allegany-Limestone star Angelina Napoleon, who was second in 2:06.95. No one else broke 2:08.
Then, in Saturday’s mile race, Putman again ran well, getting third place in 4:48.80 as Napoleon this time prevailed in a meet-record 4:46.38. Putman’s points alone helped C-NS finish ninth in the girls team standings.
Much closer to home, C-NS and Liverpool athletes took part in last Friday’s John Arcaro Co-Ed Classic at Baldwinsville where the C-NS girls, even without Putman, finished second (65 points) and Liverpool third (63 points) behind East Syracuse Minoa’s winning total of 69 points.
Kalli Congden won twice for the Northsars, going 17 feet 4 ½ inches in the long jump to beat Liverpool’s Maddie Devendorf (16’3 1/2”) in third place.
Also, Congden was victorious in the 100-meter hurdles in 15.32 seconds and second in the long jump, clearing 5’4”, to go with a fourth in the triple jump as Gianna Boland was fifth.
Jaydin Mackey got third in the 400 hurdles in 1:08.14 and fourth in the 100 sprint ahead of Devendorf in fifth. Mackey, in 26.55, was a close second to Westhill’s Allison Langham (26.47) in the 200 as Aaliyah McDonald finished fourth. Marissa Navarra was fifth in the 1,500-meter run.
As for Liverpool, the 4×800 relay team of Taylor Page, Addison Ziegler, Jailyn Parrotte and Kaitlyn Hotaling won in 10:10.54, with C-NS third as Page was second (10:45.13) and Meghan Moyer third in the 3,000-meter run, Hotaling adding a fifth in the 800.
Allie Cary’s discus throw of 112’1” beat the field by more than 15 feet, while her shot put of 38’3 3/4” just trailed the 38’5” from Jamesville-DeWitt’s Hailey Webber
The C-NS boys were third and Liverpool fifth at the Arcaro meet as the Northstars’ Sean Graves was victorious in the 400 hurdles in 58.49 seconds, edging Watertown’s Camiren Collins (58.60) as Camron Ingram took the 110 hurdles in 14.92, with Xander Provost fifth. Dan Henry took fourth in the shot put.
Jayceon McGrew, in 22.56 seconds, claimed second in the 200. Dante Melfi was third (2:01.01) and Graves fourth (2:03.09) in the 800. Tyler Graham got fourth place in the 1,600.
For Liverpool, Ny’Quez Madison had a winning long jump of 20’6 1/2”, with Trevon Walker fourth. Madison also was third in the triple jump (41’8”) and helped Liverpool get second in the 4×100 relay in 44.36 seconds to Corcoran’s 44.21.
Roman Murray was third in the 3,000 steeplechase in 10:39.93. Liverpool (8:39.65) was third and C-NS fourth (8:47.65) in the 4×800, the Northstars also fourth in the 4×400.
