CENTRAL NEW YORK – On consecutive days this week, the Christian Brothers Academy and Fayetteville-Manlius Green girls golf teams have critical tests.
Right after the Brothers take part in Wednesday’s Onondaga High School League tournamen at Woodcrest, the Hornets go to Lakeshore Country Club for a first-place SCAC Metro division showdown with Cicero-North Syracuse Blue.
CBA handled Manlius Pebble Hill last Monday as Meredith Sommers shot a 47, with Josie Lachut adding a 51. Olivia Dispenzia had a 55 and Claire Ash shot 62.
Then, routing Skaneateles 167-250 at Drumlins a day later, Hana Kang, with a 39, and Anna Fuller, with a 40, led the way, closely followed by Grace Catalano and Clara Defilipis each posting 44.
During Thursday’s 190-241 victory over Cazenovia, CBA moved to 11-0 as Defilipis went to the top of the standings, equaling Kang’s 43. Catalano shot 49 and Jane Walsh stepped up with a 55.
To wrap up the week, CBA took out Bishop Grimes 186-260, though the Cobras’ Ashley Ince shot a 44 to equal Fuller and Meredith Sommers for individual honors. Defillipis had a 45, ahead of Lachut’s 53.
F-M Green beat its younger F-M White counterparts 169-181 in a high-level match last Monday afternoon where Erin Graves shot a 39 to take individual honors over Georgia Perry’s 42.
Gabby Dardis shot a 43, as did Claire Zerrillo, while Lindsey Chong, Alana Isley and Lucia Melfi had matching totals of 44. Katherine Parmley managed a 46 and Emily Pollard added a 50.
Both played on Wednesday, F-M Green ripping West Genesee 181-237 at Green Lakes as Graves won the individual race with a 43, edging Melfi’s 45. Isley had a 46, Elizabeth Noel got a 47 and Chong shot 50.
When F-M White faced Liverpool last Wednesday at Hickory Hills, it lost 164-174. Zerillo’s only trailed the 39 from Liverpool’s Melanie Biviano, with Perry shooting 43, Sydney Himes getting a 45 and Parmley again posting 46.
A much closer 202-203 defeat to West Genesee followed on Thursday. Sydney Hines shot 47 to equal the low total from the Wildcats’ Mia Barbuto, but 51s from Perry and Zerrillo trailed 50s from WG’s Sophia Simiele and Allison Lamberton.
MPH lost last Wednesday to Cazenovia 215-256, with Maya Gilmore’s 60 and Samantha Burkett’s 62 topped by the Lakers getting a 47 from Claire Marris and 49 from Grace Probe.
In boys golf, Bishop Grimes prevailed 245-261 over Pulaski last Monday afternoon, the Cobras seeing Dom Kensey shoot a 41 to beat the 45 from Tom Kolodzie and 46 from Nate Abernethy. Matt Dailey led the Blue Devils with a 52.
But when MPH and Grimes went head-to-head on Friday, it was the Trojans getting the 227-258 victory as Alex Fung and Dash Goode tied for individual honors, each shooting 43.
Kolodzie’s 45 led the Cobras, only to have James Wildhack and Nate Orsen each shoot 46 to pad MPH’s margin and Owen Sacks add a 49. Brandon Stevens shot 47 for Grimes as Kensey contributed a 49.
