ONONDAGA COUNTY – After back-to-back defeats to Fayetteville-Manlius Green and Cicero-North Syracuse Blue, the Baldwinsville girls golf team was successful again when facing other SCAC Metro division foes.
Tough scoring conditions at Timber Banks did not faze the Bees in last Monday’s match against West Genesee as it fought past the Wildcats 212-226.
Julia Quinn, shooting a 50, was matched by WG’s Sophia Simiele for individual honors, but B’ville got away thanks to a 51 from Eva Pawelek and a 53 from Peyton Kowalski ahead of Gianna Corbin’s 54. Keagan Downes finished with a 62.
Four days later, at Hickory Hills, the Bees met Liverpool, whom it topped 212-215 at home in April, and it was close again – but B’ville lost by a one-stroke margin, 163-164.
Kowalski’s 37 topped all individuals, two ahead of the 39 from Liverpool’s Melanie Biviano. Pawelek had a 40, which tied Maddie Turck for third place.
Hayley Rocker’s 41 put her in fifth place, but the 42s shot by the Liverpool duo of Ella Foriero and Emma Fenwick made up the ground ahead of a 46 by the Bees’ Amelia Hahn.
Matches this week against both of the Fayetteville-Manlius teams, along with C-NS Blue, will give the Bees ample time to round into form before the May 23 Section III championships at Rogues Roost.
