EAST SYRACUSE – Already having successful seasons, track and field teams at East Syracuse Minoa welcomed many of the area’s top sides to its annual specialty Invitational meet Friday at Spartan Stadium.
Yet no one was able to keep up with the host Spartans in the girls portion as, with 128.25 points, it pulled away from runner-up Cazenovia (63) as Jamesville-DeWitt was sixth with 48.75 points.
Again earning individual titles, ESM’s Evanni McDuffie went 12.49 seconds in the 100-meter dash, beating out Bishop Grimes‘ Rosalie Vincent (12.63) before prevailing in the 200-meter dash in 26.01, with Vincent (26.39) in third place.
In the 4×100 relay, McDuffie paired with Kaleigh Malooff, A’nharie Anderson and Akuot Kuany to win in 50.54 to Cazenovia’s 52.01.
Kuany, for her part, beat the field in the high jump, clearing 5 feet 1 inch, while Anderson, in 1:09.40, led a 1-2 sweep of the 400 hurdles, Amber Hayes second in 1:11.64.
To cap this day off, Rachael Ladd gave ESM a win in the 2,000-meter steeplechase, her time of 7:59.2 holding off the 8:02.9 from Bishop Grimes’ Ella Reilly.
Hayes helped the Spartans take third in the 4×400 relay in 4:22.83 as Arianna Brennen was second in the high jump with 15’4 1/4”.
J-D would emerge with a win in the 100-meter hurdles when Victoria Payne, in 15.59 seconds, held off Kuany’s 15.81, with the Webber sisters sweeping the top spots in the throwing events.
It was Jillian Webber throwing the discus 106’6” to top Solvay’s Emily Rolince (100’10”), while Hailey Webber tossed the shot put 35’4” to top the 32’8” from Marcellus’ Bailey Ellis.
Nikki Militi added a second-place finish in the 400-meter dash, breaking the one-minute mark (59.57 seconds) to only trail Westhill’s Ashley Bolesh (57.43).
Christian Brothers Academy had Claire Krueger finish third in the 1,500-meter run in 5:21.17, while Reilly finished second in the 800-meter run in 2:28.02 and Grimes teammate Edy Livingston was second in the 3,000 in 11:18.86.
Meanwhile, in the boys portion of the ESM meet, the host Spartans, along with J-D, finished just behind Baldwinsville and Pulaski with plenty of top-end performances.
Kevin Vigneault’s discus throw of 125’3” trailed only the 140’6” from Baldwinsville’s David Dobrowolski, while Braydon Johnson took third in the 400 hurdles in 1:02.13.
Hudson Groat, Brayden Rivera, Moujhaid Cherif and Adam Rigdon were second (3:42.18) to B’ville (3:39.98) in the 4×400 relay, with ESM third in 3:44.53 as the Rams took third in the 4×100 in 45.96 seconds.
ESM had Mekhi Carroll finish second in the shot put with 43′ 1/4” behind Dobrowolsk’s 47′ 1/4”. Ryan Sullivan cleared 5’8” in the high jump, second to the Abdirasid Aden was third in the 110 hurdles in 16.14 seconds, while Sumit Kadariya had a third-place long jump of 19’9 1/2”.
