EAST SYRACUSE – Before they finished their regular-season work, each of the Baldiwnsville track and field teams would find plenty of success during Friday’s East Syracuse Minoa Invitational Specialty Meet.
Solomon Holden-Betts again excelled in distance races, especially the 3,000-meter steeplechase, where his time of nine minutes, 25.80 seconds was the fastest in the country so far this season and more than 13 seconds clear of Pulaski’s Luke Tighe (9:39.04) in the runner-up spot.
Then, in the 4×400 relay, Holden-Betts joined Paul, Jack McAllister and Logan Hayes to win in 3:33.98, well clear of second-place Jamesville-DeWitt (3:42.18).
Leading the Bees with a sweep of the throwing events, David Dobrowolski was victorious in the discus with a heave of 140 feet 6 inches to go with a top shot put toss of 47′ 1/4” that beat the field by nearly four feet.
Kyle Sheckler would top 12’6” and win the pole vault, while B’ville’s 4×100 relay team of Dominic Lucio, Anthony Noda, Kaleb Paul and Declan Pridemore was able to go 44.93 seconds to beat Tully’s second-place 45.56.
Jeff Ragonese claimed the 800-meter run in 2:02.12 to the 2:04.11 from Onondaga’s Emmett Dix. Logan Zapf took second in the 110 high hurdles in 15.98 seconds to the 15.85 from Syracuse ITC’s Tyshawn Taylor.
In the girls meet at ESM, B’ville picked up 56.5 points for third place, trailing only the host Spartans’ winning total of 128.25 and Cazenovia (63) in second place.
No one beat the Bees’ Kamryn Barton in the 1,500-meter run, though, as Barton’s 5:04.68 held off Tully’s Anna Congelli (5:06.14) for top honors.
Sydney McKenney was victorious, too, clearing 10 feet to win the pole vault. Avamarie Davis, Maddie Kennedy, Clare Horan and Brianna Grosso were second (4:19.59) to Vernon-Verona-Sherrill (4:14.85) in the 4×400 relay, with Davis, Natalie Bartkowiak, Aaniya Johnson and Emerson Clavijo third in the 4×100 in 52.10 seconds.
B’ville meets West Genesee and Corcoran Wednesday before hosting Friday’s John Arcaro Relays, with some of the boys Bees invited to the prestigious Glenn D. Loucks Invitational Saturday in White Plains.
