BALDWINSVILLE – Two weeks, two meets, and two vastly different sets of conditions against two primary rivals, and yet the same satisfying result for the Baldwinsville boys outdoor track and field team.
Immediately asserting itself this spring, the Bees knocked off Cicero-North Syracuse and Liverpool by big margins at Pelcher-Arcaro Stadium on consecutive Wednesday afternoons, all part of a 3-0 start.
It was hot and sunny on April 12 when B’ville opened its league slate against both C-NS and Nottingham. By a score of 96-45, the Bees proved too much for the Northstars as it nearly shut out the Bulldogs and prevailed 127-14.
By the time B’ville welcomed its other neighbors from Liverpool for a head-to-head meet seven days later, the temperature was at least 40 degrees colder, but the hosts remained too good for its opposition, the Bees smashing its way to a 106-35 victory.
Solomon Holden-Betts and Logan Zapf each won two events for B’ville against Liverpool, with Holden-Betts going four minutes, 25.39 seconds in the 1,600-meter run and also taking the 800-meter run in 2:09.47.
As for Zapf, he started out the meet by covering the 110 high hurdles in 16.30 seconds, and moved on to the long jump, where his top attempt of 18 feet 1 inch also proved best.
Not only did Logan Hayes speed to a time of 51.95 seconds in the 400-meter dash, he paired with Jack McAllister, Jeff Ragonese and Noah Covert to go 8:35.29 in the 4×800 relay, part of a Bees relay sweep as McAllister also won the 200-meter dash in 23.73.
McAllister joined Anthony Noda, Dominic Lucio and Declan Pridemore to go 46.09 seconds in the 4×100, while in the 4×400 the quartet of Evan Smith, Kyle Sheckler, Kayden Gilbert and Will Cornell won in 3:49.34.
Sweeping the throwing events, B’ville had Gibson Boudov toss the shot put 40’7″ and David Dobrowolski heave the discus 135’9″ as Griffin Killian topped 5’6″ in the high jump. Kaleb Paul beat the field in the 100-meter dash in 11.69 seconds.
Meanwhile, the B”ville girls track team started 1-2, splitting its first meet April 12 as it beat Nottingham 117-19, but could not keep up with C-NS in an 86-55 defeat.
In Wednesday’s 78-63 loss to Liverpool, the Bees still had Brianna Grosso win the 400 sprint in 1:07.49 and Rachel Becker go 1:13.07 in the 400 hurdles. Grosso, Becker, Maddie Kennedy and Kamryn Barton were victorious in the 4×400 in 4:30.71.
