SYRACUSE – Many of the area’s high school track and field teams flourished when Westhill played host to its annual Spring Break Invitational on T+uesday afternoon.
West Genesee got plenty of wins in the boys sprints, including four of the top five in the 100-meter dash, led by Kev Scott’s winning 11.41 seconds as Dylan Frost was third (11.77), Chris Moser fourth (11.78) and Francisco cross fifth in 12.03.
Scott returned in the 200-meter dash to win in 22.97 seconds to Moser’s second-place 23.21 as Cross (24.10) was fourth. The Wildcats took third in the 4×400 relay in 3:40.90.
Hayden Rothenberg earned a third-place triple jump of 37 feet 7 ½ inches as Kevin Moser got fifth place in the 800-meter run in 2:05 flat as Peter McMahon was seventh in the 1,600 in 4:34.28.
Skaneateles had Kyla Palmer victorious in the 100 and 200-meter sprints. In the 100, her 12.98 seconds beat the 13.16 from WG’s Mya Rufus and, in the 200, her time of 25.92 seconds was nearly a full second ahead of the field.
The Lakers’ Will Feeney was second in the boys shot put, heaving it 44’10 1/2”, then had a fourth-place discus throw of 119’4”.
Chloe Feitze gave WG’s girls a victory in the 800-meter run, claiming it in 2:21.83 as Claire Griffin (2:33.31) was fifth. Rufus led the Wildcats to third in the 4×400 relay in 4:30.65.For the hosts from Westhill, Jules Bleskoski roared to victory in the 1,500-meter run in 5:01.06, with Skaneateles’ Lucy Fleckenstein fifth in 5:14.93.
Then Ashley Bolesh won the 200 hurdles in 29.27 seconds, the only time under 30 as Isabel Young (32.11) was fifth. Kate Bendall beat the field in the triple jump with 34’10 1/4” as Emma Murphy was third (32’8 3/4”) and Isabel Leonardo fourth with 32’3”.
Bendall, Murphy and Ava Baty were second in the 3×100 shuttle hurdles in 50.51 seconds, with WG in sixth place. Mary Kate Rewakowski took third in the pole vault, clearing 7’6” as teammate Mallie Alt was fifth and Morgan Heise sixth in the discus.
Marcellus saw Anella Bolster win the girls long jump, her top leap of 16’7 1/4” beating out the 16’6 1/4” from Liverpool’s Maddie Devendorf as Bendall was fourth with 16’1” and Skaneateles’ Maddie Wright (15’4”) fifth to go with her third in the high jump, where she cleared 4’10” ahead of Westhill’s Ileanna Hopkins (4’8”) in fourth.
The boys Mustangs rose to third place in the boys shuttle hurdles relay in 56.10 seconds, with Westhill in sixth place as Owen Mulholland took third in the 200 hurdles in 27.32 and Cameron Sadler was sixth (36’10”) in the shot put.
On the girls side for the Mustangs, Bailey Ellis had a fourth-place shot put toss of 32’4” and got seventh in the discus, with Scott Hall seventh in the boys discus at 108’10”.
Jordan-Elbridge had Abby Bates finish eighth in the 2,000 steeplechase in 8:56.06. Alex Kunz was 10th in the boys 3,000 steeplechase in 11:02.96.
