CENTRAL NEW YORK – With a full squad, the Baldwinsville wrestling team may have found itself with a real chance against SCAC Metro division front-runner Cicero-North Syracuse in last Wednesday’s league meet.
However, absences in four weight classes loomed large in the Bees’ 51-15 defeat to the Northstars, for B’ville managed to win four of the nine contested bouts.
Early on, at 138 pounds, Keegan Hayes claimed a tough 3-0 decision over Sean Aldrich, with Davian McLeod emerging at 152 pounds to edge Ethan Warmblr 7-6.
Judson Ferris added a title at 189 pounds when he pinned Khol Kalfass in the third period, with Brennan Kline, at 102 pounds, able to hold on for a 4-3 decision over Kevin Mossow.
B’ville also had Michael Spinner, in the 132-pound opener, go all six minutes in a 9-3 defeat to Drew Baker, but C-NS claimed all of its other points through pins and forfeits.
From there, the Bees went to Saturday’s Cazenovia Invitational and finished seventh in a 15-team field with 91 points as South Jefferson/Sandy Creek, with 158 points, claimed the top spot.
Only Hayes was able to get to the championship round, pinning Canastota’s Luken Gaiser in the third period of their semifinal before a title bout where he lost, 6-0, to South Jefferson/Sandy Creek’s Chase Lawton.
Aaron Fredenburg had B’ville’s other-top four finish, at 172 pounds, earning it when he pinned Homer’s Colin Murphy in under three minutes.
