SYRACUSE – All winter long, the Baldwinsville boys indoor track and field team has maintained a win streak throughout all the large-scale meets, but now the girls are joining in the fun.
Each of the Bees’ sides emerged victorious from Saturday’s afternoon session of the Fred Kirschenheiter Memorial Invitational at SRC Arena, with the boys getting 229 points and the girls’ 147.50 points enough to hold off Jamesville-DeWitt (140) for top honors.
To lead the B’ville girls, Sydney McKenney cleared 10 feet for another victory in the pole vault. McKenney also was second in the 55-meter hurdles in 9.78 seconds and second in the high jump, clearing 4’8”.
The Bees’ 4×400 relay team of Mia Pozzi, Madison Kennedy, Brianna Grosso and Kelsey Dwyer went four minutes, 23.60 seconds to pull clear from runner-up Oswego (4:35.67) by more than 12 seconds.
Later, in the 4×200, the Bees clinched the victory when Kennedy, Pozzi, Avamarie Davis and Anaiya Johnson finished in 1:52.80, the only time under two minutes.
Pozzi got third in the 55-meter dash in 7.73 seconds as Johnson was fifth (7.78) and Haylee Robinson seventh in 8.14.Kennedy, in 45.13 seconds, edged Davis (45.31) for fourth in the 300-meter dash.
Yolanda Wei finished second in the 3,000-meter run in 11:40.69, with Lily Horan fifth in 12:38.84. Sophia Cavalieri got second place in the 1,000-meter run in 3:23.83 as Adrianna Orlando (3:33.45) was fifth.
Claire Horan took third in the 600 in 1:52.11 as Mary Sabatino (1:53.91) was fourth and Grosso seventh. Kamryn Barton finished fourth at 1,500 meters in a season-best 5:15.33.
Horan, Cavalieri, Sabatino and Orlando were second (11:00.30) to Auburn (10:53.58) in the 4×800 relay.
Julianna Gingrich had a third-place shot put toss of 31’5 3/4”, a new personal mark. Natalie Bartkowiak was fourth in the long jump, going 14 feet as Olivia Bartlett was sixth, with Bartkowiak also fifth in the triple jump with 30’8 1/2”. Paige Bohman was seventh in the weight throw with 28’4 1/2”.
Over in the boys meet, in the 3,200-meter run Ryan Wilson ran a personal-best 9:57.38 as Jacob Guelli (10:52.62) was third and Adam Kozman fourth in 10:58.82.
Then Noah Covert won the 1,000 in 2:40.77, with Paul Clark third in 2:44.98 and Logan Bolton sixth. Solomon Holden-Betts claimed the 600 in 1:25.39, among the top 50 in the country this season, with Logan Hayes second in 1:27.31 and Jeff Ragonese (1:28.71) fourth.
Among the many wins for the B’ville boys was a relay sweep. In the 4×800, Holden-Betts, Ragonese, Wilson and Covert went a quick 8:31.45 to easily win that race.
Logan Hayes, Jack McAllister, Brayden Bolton and Nate Glidden paired to win the 4×400 in 3:41.03, and in the closing 4×200 McAllister, Hayes, Brandon Levin and Kaleb Paul went 1:35.17 to pull away from J-D’s 1:38.65.
On his own, Paul took the high jump by clearing 5’6” as Griffin Killian was third and Kyle Sheckler fourth, each topping 5’4”. But it was Sheckler winning the pole vault with a 12’6” that put him in the state top 25 as Grayson Brady was second with 10’6” and Dylan Wirtheim (9 feet) was fifth.
Levin, in 6.83 seconds, went 1-2 with Anthony Noda (6.92) in the 55-meter dash and, later, in the 300, Zach Arria was second in 39.55, with Brayden Bolton (40.18) sixth. Levin would later prevail in the long jump, his 20’2” a new personal best as it edged the 19’11” from J-D’s Emile Antoine.
Dimiti Ioannidis was second in the shot put with 42’8 1/4” as David Dobrowolski (40’1 1/2”) was fourth, but moved up to second in the weight throw with 49′ 1/2” though well back of Auburn star Dustin Swartwood’s 66’3 1/2”, which put him in the top 10 of the national rankings in that event.
Jackson Creelman got second in the 55 hurdles in 8.32 seconds, with Logan Zapf fourth in 8.64 and Jonah Offredi fifth in 9.47. Zapf was fourth (37’4 1/4”) and Cooper Christman fifth (35’6 3/4”) in the triple jump as Doug Clark was eighth in the 1,600-meter run in 5:18.78.
