CENTRAL NEW YORK – Evanni McDuffie and her East Syracuse Minoa girls indoor track and field teammates continued to rewrite the school record books during Thursday’s Art McKinnon Meet at Utica University’s Hutton Dome.
In the 55-meter dash, McDuffie went 7.39 seconds, which broke her own school mark of 7.44 set just five days earlier in the John Arcaro Invitational at SRC Arena and won the race, too, the next closest time a 7.77 from Sauquoit Valley’s Allison Lazarek. Kaleigh Maloof was seventh in 7.99.
Later, in the 4×200 relay, McDuffie, paired with Anaharie Anderson, Kaleigh Maloof and Amber Hayes, went 1:50.36 and shattered the school record of 1:51.82, again prevailing as New York Mills was second in 1:53.38.
Overall, ESM finished with 65 points and took second in a field of nearly 30 teams, trailing only the 77 from Rome Free Academy.
Arianna Brennen, in 9.56 seconds, was second in the 55-meter hurdles as Anderson was sixth in 9.93. Later, Brennen had a second-place shot put toss of 28 feet 7 inches and then was second in the high jump, clearing 5’1” just behind the 5’2” from Rome Free Academy’s Imani Pugh.
The Spartans also were third in the 4×400 relay in 4:37.95 and sixth in the 4×800 relay. Rachael Burt took fifth in the 3,000-meter run in 11:31.38 and was sixth in the 1,500-meter run in 5:24.17.
The ESM boys got 32.5 points to finish eighth at the McKinnon meet, eight of the points from Abdi Aden, whose 8.50 seconds in the 55 hurdles was second to the 8.34 from Syracuse ITC’s Tyshawn Taylor.
Sumit Kadariya was third in the long jump, setting a new personal mark with 19’4 1/4” as Phil Moore was seventh with 18’4”. Luke Mancini topped 10 feet for fifth place in the pole vault.
Sol Scofeld, Caleb Byrd, Hussein Abdi and Anthony Ciotti were third in the 4×400 in 3:50.40 as Stephen Winans was fifth in the 600-meter run in a personal-best 1:32.04. Byrd cleared 5’4” for sixth place in the high jump.
All of this preceded Saturday’s Fred Kirschenheiter Invitational, where Jamesville-DeWitt took part in the afternoon session and was second on both sides to Baldwinsville with several winning efforts.
The J-D girls swept the throwing events again, Hailey Webber (35’8 3/4”) beating Kenna Ridzi (32’3 1/4”) in the shot put and then Webber winning the weight throw with 40’8 1/2”, putting her in the national top 50.
Also, the Rams were 1-2 in the 300 sprint, Victoria Payne winning in 43.29 seconds to edge Nikki Militi’s 43.35. Militi was victorious in the 600 in a personal-best 1:43.41 as Payne got second in the 55 sprint in 7.64 seconds.
Nina Autry added a win in the triple jump, going 33’3 3/4” as Eliyanna Deng had a winning long jump of 15’5 1/2” to go with a fourth in the high jump. Molly McIntyre was third in the 1,000 as J-D also was second in the 4×200 in 2:00.18 and Emma Deehan was fourth in the pole vault.
In the boys meet, J-D had Brayden Rivera beat the field in the 300 in 38.62 seconds as Nathan Cottet was fourth. Emile Antoine was second (39’10 1/4”) and Harpeet Duggal third (38′ 1/4”) in the triple jump, with Antoine second in the long jump with 19’11”. Daviel Cruz was fourth and Cade Fowler fifth in the weight throw.
The Rams were second all three relays to B’ville, going 1:38.65 in the 4×200, running the 4×400 in 3:49.93 and the 4×800 in 8:59.69. Connor Clarkson was second in the 1,000 in 2:41.17 and third in the 1,600 in 4:56.70.
Fayetteville-Manlius was second in the boys morning session to West Genesee and sixth in the girls session, though it included Izzie Sullivan winning the 3,000 in a national top-10 time of 10:01.99 as Maria Khalifeh was second in 10:54.46.
Claire McDonald won, too, going 3:23.69 to pull away in the girls 1,000 as Alexa Caron was second in the 300 in 44.72 seconds and fourth in the long jump.
Alex Martinez rolled to a win in the boys 1,000 in 2:37.85 over Nolan McGinn’s 2:39.54, while Mason Weires won the 600 in 1:28.86 and Denim Hall cleared 6’1” to dominate the high jump.
Will Ditre was third in the 3,200 and Vicent Hunt third in the 300 as the Hornets were second in the 4×400 in 3:45.49. Jackson Brown was fourth in the pole vault, clearing 9 feet, while Seth Albert took fifth in the long jump and Mike Surowiec fifth in the weight throw.
