BALDWINSVILLE – Mikey White, Matt Lange and Lucas Clay went to the forefront for the Baldwinsville boys swim team in what proved a satisfying start to 2003.
The host Bees defeated Cicero-North Syracuse 51-43 Tuesday at the C.W. Baker High School pool, with White, Lange and Clay winning two individual races apiece.
White posted a time of 55.70 seconds in the 100-yard butterfly to beat Caden Griffin’s 58.32 after a 200 freestyle where, 1:48.39, he was nearly 14 seconds faster than Griffin (2:02.19) at race’s end.
Lange was first victorious in the 100 freestyle, his 51.12 seconds edging the 51.63 from C-NS standout Jacob Griffin as, in the 100 backstroke, Lange won in 59.58 to Anthony Gabrielli’s 1:01.48.
Clay pulled away to take the 500 freestyle in 5:21.03, and later, in the 100 breaststroke, would need 1:07.21 to fend off a 1:08.33 from C-NS’s Joey Swenton, who had earlier won the 200 individual medley.
In the 200 freestyle relay, White, Lange, Ben Webster and Alex Licita posted 1:34.61 to top the Bees’ 1:36.32, while Colin Szkotak and Keenan Smith joined Lange and Licita would take the 400 freestyle relay in 3:50.19 to C-NS’s 3:51.19.
Webster had already finished second (23.85 seconds) to Jacob Griffin (23.50) in the 50 freestyle after Jayden Miranda took second in the 200 individual medley in 2:23.96.
Two nights later, B’ville hosted Oswego and prevailed once again, topping the Buccaneers 47-41 to reach the .500 mark (3-3) with more fine individual performances across the board and a sweep of the relays.
In the 200 medley relay, Webster, Smith, Lange and Clay posted 1:54.56. Miranda, Webster, Mason Stever and Danny Sima swam the 200 freestyle relay in 1:40.80 before Smith and Miranda, paired with Nathan Saint and Aidan Tallarico, went 3:40.31 in the 400 freestyle relay to top the 3:42.85 from Nicita, White, Szkotak and Sima.
White went 1:47.85 in the 200 freestyle before he recorded a top time of 55.18 seconds in the 100 butterfly, while Lange was victorious in the 50 freestyle in 23.52 second
Stever, second in the 50 freestyle (25.78 seconds) behind Lange, went to the front in the 100 freestyle in 58.22 before Clay had the quickest 100 backstroke time of 1:02.80.
In 5:28.16, Nicita was a close second to Oswego’s Treyse Miller (5:27.02) in the 500 freestyle as Smith went 1:15.96 in the 100 breaststroke, just behind the Bucs’ Shane Bond (1:15.81), and Szkotak was second in the 200 IM in 2:35.44.
More action takes place next week, B’ville visiting Weedsport Tuesday and then taking part in the Jan. 13-14 Salt City Athletic Conference meet at Nottingham High School.
