CENTRAL NEW YORK – In its first large-scale event of the winter, the Jamesville-DeWitt/Christian Brothers Academy wrestling team emerged victorious from the Dec. 3 Morrisville-Eaton Duals.
Going 5-0, the Rams were well clear of 3-2 marks from Vernon-Verona-Sherrill and the host M-E Warriors, with East Syracuse Minoa unable to win a match.
J-D/CBA handled M-E 51-24 in the opener, followed up with wins over Whitesboro and ESM and then pulled away from both VVS (48-21) and Cazenovia (70-6) to complete the sweep.
Nathan Finn (138 pounds), Mason Porter (145 pounds) and Gerald Vielhauer won all three of their bouts on the mat, with Vielhauer prevailing at both160 and 172 pounds. Carlos Barraso won at both 110 and 118 pounds.

It just so happened that J-D/CBA and ESM would have a rematch last Wednesday night and the Spartans would make some inroads, but the Rams still prevailed in another 51-24 decision.
In the first two contested bouts, Finn pinned Brayden Galway in 34 seconds and Porter pinned Charlie English in 44 seconds, with Vielhauer getting a second-period fall over Daniel Diaz.
Consecutive bouts both lasted until 17 seconds were left, with J-D/CBA’s Ben Paul (189 pounds) pinning Vaughn Ladley and Schroeder answering for ESM with a pin of Bryce Dadey.
At 102 pounds, the Spartans’ Akasha Nunnally pinned Dom Schiano in 3:31 before Matt Dougherty (110 pounds) pinned Peyton Spencer in 3:24. In the only bout to go all six minutes, the Rams’Tom Cooney, in the 126-pound finale, held off ESM’s Caiden Scott 7-4.
Fayetteville-Manlius took on Liverpool that same night and only earned a pair of wins on the mat during a 63-12 defeat to the Warriors.
The Warriors claimed every match until Jackson Schwab, at 215 pounds, pinned Chase Bandy. Eric Kozlowski earned the Hornets’ other six points at 126, getting a pin over Samir Amiri, as Harrison Schwab, wrestling at 138, took a 10-8 loss to Nick Ault.
ESM wrestled Saturday in the Brett Dixon Memorial Duals at Central Square and defeated Cazenovia 39-33, aided by pins from Wunderlich, Schroeder, Scott and Owen Roche (132).
Meanwhile, F-M took seventh place out of 16 teams in the Phoenix Round Robin, Jackson Schwab winning at 215 when he topped Jared Haers (Palmyra-Macedon) 6-2 in the semifinals and pinned Rush-Henrietta’s Tramell Parson in the third period of their championship bout. Sam Reikes was third at 118 after an 8-5 win over Liverpool’s Pierce Goodave.
