CENTRAL NEW YORK – Impressive right out of the gate, the Marcellus boys indoor track and field team claimed a second-place finish during Wednesday’s first portion of the Jack Morse Kickoff Meet at SRC Arena.
The Mustangs earned 62 points, trailing only the 79 from Fayetteville-Manlius as West Genesee was sixth with 30 points.
Earning a victory for Marcellus in the pole vault, Andrew McCaffery was able to clear 10 feet 6 inches, with no other competitor able to top 10 feet. Zach Lester, Nate Alexander, Nolan Manahan and Liam Eldridge were fourth in the 4×800 relay in 9:46.53.
West Genesee was victorious in the 4×400 relay, where Chris Moser, Anthony Edgar, Logan Scott and Will Fettig went 3:44.10 as Marcellus had Paul Swenson, Xander Szalach, Ay-Zoh Shaw and Colden Kwasinowski get third in 3:59.60.
Then, in the 55-meter dash, the Wildcats’ Dylan Frost won in 6.84 seconds to the 6.86 from F-M’s Seth Albert, with Ethan Snyder seventh in 6.99 for Marcellus. Frost, Aaron Bell, Kev Scott and Rhison Williams were second (1:40.22) to F-M (1:39.72) in the 4×200 relay, with the Mustangs fourth in 1:43.43.
Skaneateles saw Max Paciorek win the high jump, his clearance of 6 feet a full two inches ahead of anyone else as Szalach was fifth for Marcellus with 5’4”.
Paciorek got a close second (8.94 seconds) to PSLA-Fowler’s Jeremiah Brundige (8.86) in the 55-meter hurdles, with Marcellus having Owen Alexander fifth in 9.73 and Mason Grieb sixth in 9.85.
Also for the Lakers, Will Feeney threw the shot put 40’11 1/4” for second place, with Paciorek eighth in the long jump. In the weight throw, Feeney’s 53’3” produced another second-place effort as Scott Hall was fifth with 42’4”.
Jordan-Elbridge saw Alex Kunz go 4:58.04 in the 1,600-meter run, putting him in fifth place, but had Kunz, Gabe Jones, Cameron Bragman and Peyton Bates go 4:20.52 in the sprint medley relay to edge Marcellus (4:21.32) for fourth place.
Over in the girls meet, Skaneateles surged to a tie for third place with 45 points. Only Cazenovia (78 points) and Liverpool (58.5) did better.
The Skaneateles girls won the 4×200 as Kyla Palmer, Gianna Caraccio, Julia O’Connor and Carolina McGraw went 1:57.02 to beat Central Square’s 1:57.90. Marcellus was fourth in 2:00.72, with WG (2:01.86) in fifth place.
Maggie Wright added a victory in the high jump for the Lakers, clearing 5 feet with fewer misses than Nottingham’s Miyanah Robinson.
On her own, Palmer went 7.83 seconds for third place in the 55 sprint, while Alice Spaulding was second in the shot put, heaving it 30′ 1/2” as teammate Mara Stanton was third with 29′ 1/2”.
Moving to the weight throw, Spaulding again finished second, heaving it 33’1 1/2”, with Stanton (29’8 1/4”) in fourth place. Caraccio had a fourth-place long jump of 13’9”.
WG won the sprint medley relay as Grace McInerney, Mya Rufus, Molly Doran and Chloe Fietze posted 4:34.83 to finish more than 17 seconds ahead of runner-up Homer’s 4:52.55. Skaneateles was fifth in 5:02.48 as McInerney took fifth in the high jump.l
Marcellus also finished fourth in the 4×800 in 11:32.47 and then was fourth in the 4×400 in 4:49.17, beating out WG’s fifth-place 4:53.50 as Skaneateles (5:05.79) was seventh. Sophia Maum took fifth in the 1,500-meter run in 5:38.42.
Solvay was sixth in the girls and eighth in the boys division of Thursday’s portion of the Morse meet. The boys Bearcats finished fourth in the sprint medley in 4:15.42 as Emily Rolince was fifth in the girls shot put with 25’8” and Rachel Willsey tied for sixth in the high jump.
Westhill went away from all this to compete in the Mohawk Valley Kickoff meet at Utica College on Friday, where it finished fourth among girls teams with 45.5 points.
Kennedy Rose, Ellie Thornton, Sabine Napolitano and Olivia Holowinski were second in the 4×400 in 4:39.15/ Emma Murphy was fourth in the 55 hurdles before helping Rose, Emma DeSanton and Mary Kate Rewakowski get second in the 4×200 in 2:00.61. Rewakowski finished fourth in the pole vault.
