SYRACUSE – It didn’t take long for the Fayetteville-Manlius boys indoor track and field team to assert its place among the best sides in Section III.
The Hornets picked up 79 points to beat 16 other teams in Wednesday’s Jack Morse Kickoff Meet at SRC Arena, with Marcellus earning 62 points for second place as Cazenovia (54 points) was third.
Right away, F-M got into the win column when Will Beecher, Will Ditre, Kyler Patrick and Mason Weires went nine minutes, 27.25 seconds to take the 4×800 relay, well clear of Central Square’s runner-up 9:41.33.
Alex Martinez added to it when he won the 1,600-meter run in 4:35.34, nearly 12 seconds ahead of the field. Then Seth Albert, Vincent Hunt, Jackson Burton and Donovan Wonders won the 4×200 relay in 1:39.72 to West Genesee’s 1:44.22.
Hunt, Cooper Dereszynski, Denim Hall and Carter Husted went 3:50.95 for second place in the 4×400 relay.
Albert, in 6.86 seconds, took second in the 55-meter dash to WG’s Dylan Frost (6.84) as Burton was fifth in 6.96. Dereszynski was fourth in the 55-meter hurdles in 9.51 seconds, with Albert seventh in the long jump.
Hall, clearing 5’10”, was second in the long jump to Skaneateles’ Max Paciorek (6 feet) as Hunt was sixth with 5’2”. Jackson Brown topped 9’6” for third place in the pole vault. Liam Malgieri had a sixth-place shot put toss of 36’9 1/2” and also was sixth (40 feet) in the weight throw.
F-M’s girls had a more modest showing, taking ninth place (25.5 points) as the Hornets were third in the 4×800 in 11:31.48 thanks to Jordan Giannetti, Rheea Goyal, Claire McDonald and Bella Umina.
Later, in the 4×400, Maria Khalifeh, Isabella Adrian, Ava Beecher and Talbot Baldwin were third in 4:38.74. CBA’s Mary Sullivan was fourth in the 1,500-meter run in 5:31.01. Devon Sedlak was fifth in the pole vault.
East Syracuse Minoa led the local contingent in Thursday’s portion of the Morse meet, the boys Spartans finishing third with 70 points behind Baldwinsville and Cicero-North Syracuse and the girls in fifth place with 44.5 points.
Sol Scofeld, Anthony Ciotti, Brandon Cerlanck and Joe Pedrosa-Garcia paired for the boys Spartans to win the 4×800 in 9:24.21, edging B’ville’s 9:25.06.
Caleb Byrd added a victory in the high jump when he cleared 5’8” with fewer misses than Cato-Meridian’s Merritt Cox, while Luke Mancini tied B’ville’s Grayson Brady for top honors in the pole vault, each topping 10 feet.
Jay-Neil McDuffie got second in the 55 hurdles in 8.38 seconds, with Sumit Kadariya third in the 55 sprint in 6.92 seconds before pairing with Caleb Byrd, Aidan Hirt and Michael Ojeda to take the 4×200 in 1:40.60 to B’ville’s 1:42.37.
In field events, Mekai Carroll had a second-place shot put toss of 38’1 1/2” as Victor Rodriguez was fourth with 34’11 1/4”. Mancini was fourth in the triple jump with 36’11 1/2” as Phil Moore went 18’1 3/4” in the long jump for fifth place.
On the girls side, ESM won the 4×200 when Evanni McDuffie, Kaleigh Maloof, Amber Hayes and Anaharie Anderson went 1:53.76 to finish four more than four seconds ahead of C-NS’s 1:57.99,
Maloof, in the triple jump, went 31’11” to take second place. McDuffie got second in the 55 sprint in 7.56 seconds before Rachael Burt got second in the 1,500 in 5:20.71. Gianna Brilbeck had a third in the shot put with 26′ 1/2”.
Anaharie Anderson was fourth (9.90 seconds) and Kaleigh Maloof (10.21) sixth in the 55 hurdles. ESM took fourth in the 4×400 in 4:52.84 and fifth in the sprint medley in 4:57.52.
Bishop Grimes had a victory in the 55 sprint from Rosalie Vincent, whose time of 7.43 seconds beat out McDuffie. The Cobras were fourth in the girls 4×200 and fifth in the boys 4×200.
