CENTRAL NEW YORK – Sydney McKenney and Lauren Millard swept to most of the top honors in the Level 3 portion of last Friday’s Section III gymnastics championships.
Held at Valley Gymnastics Center in Utica, the sectional meet included team and individual apparatus, with New Hartford taking the team title for the ninth year in a row.
Meanwhile, in Level 3 McKenney led all competitors with an all-around score of 30.20, beating out the 28.65 from Whitesboro’s Emma Fasolo.
With a score of 8.25 on the vault and 7.0 on uneven bars, McKenney won both apparatus in Level 3, also taking second in floor exercise with an 8.45 routine.
As for Millard, she rose to the top in Level 3 balance beam, her score of 7.95 beating out the 7.75 from Oriskany’s Braelyn Oehler.
Earlier in the week, B’ville had closed the regular season facing Jamesville-DeWitt/Fayetteville-Manlius, taking a 130.15-123.70 defeat.
This happened despite McKenney tying Antoinette Sakellariou in the vault, both scoring 8.2 to edge the 8.15 from Catherine Rizzo. Also, on the floor McKenney’s 8.4 equaled Sakellariou as Cassie Fletcher scored 8.0 to finish fourth.
On uneven bars, McKenney and Ava Wazen tied for third, each scoring 8.0, while Millard put up an 8.5 on the beam, not far from the 8.8s from Sakellariou and Rizzo.
