LIVERPOOL – Fans crowded in Tuesday night to see two undefeated girls swim teams clash as Liverpool hosted New Hartford.
And though the Warriors had plenty of fine individual and relay efforts, it was the Spartans prevailing 99-85 to stake its claim as perhaps the best all-around team in Central New York.
New Hartford took the lead from the outset with its first-place time of two minutes, 3.39 seconds in the 200-yard medley relay and never surrendered it, claiming most of the individual titles.
Three events passed before Kaitlyn Thompson got Liverpool a victory in the 50 freestyle in 25.80 seconds, well clear of the Spartans’ Rihanna Lynch (27.20). Later, Thompson took second in the 100 backstroke in 1:06.69.
In the 200 medley relay, Thompson paired with Sarah Colwell, Brianna Kuznia and Emerson Gellert to go 1:46.12, just ahead of New Hartford’s 1:47.02.
Kuznia had just finished second in the 100 freestyle in 59.33 seconds as Kerry Hunter (1:01.51) was third, with Colwell putting up 5:42.22 in the 500 freestyle, second to New Hartford’s Dana Hans in 5:33.44.
To lead the visiting Spartans, Katie Lester and Subeen Park each won twice. Lester went 2:03.30 in the 200 freestyle as Hans (2:07.20) was second before she posted 1:01.91 to claim the 100 backstroke.
As for Park, she held off Gellert, 1:05.81 to 1:07.33, in the 100 butterfly and then took the 100 breaststroke in 1:11.97. In diving, Sofia Valente and June Piorkowski tied for second, each with 186.55 points, behind the 205.60 from New Hartford’s Liliana Mulcahy.
