ONONDAGA COUNTY – Just as they had done two weeks earlier, the Fayetteville-Manlius and East Syracuse Minoa field hockey teams got together, this time squaring off on the Hornets’ home turf.
And once again F-M would keep the Spartans off the board, prevailing this time by a 3-0 margin to move to 8-3 on the season as ESM fell back to the .500 mark at 5-5-1.
On the way to six consecutive victories, F-M had roared past ESM 4-0 back on Sept. 14 at Spartan Stadium, and in the rematch several different Hornets got involved in the attack.
The three goals came from three different players – Ella Herber, Carine Smith and Sarah Porter – with Carlye Bryant and Natalie Reames responsible for assists.
ESM managed just three shots all night, while on the other end the work of goalie Mollie Comstock, who had eight saves, kept it from getting more lopsided.
All of this led F-M to Saturday’s match with Baldwinsville, made up from a Sept. 19 weather postponement, and it was a tight, tense affair, with the Hornets tough all game, but still falling to the Bees 1-0.
A second-quarter goal by Abby Mantione got B’ville in front. Kaleigh Hamilton turned everything else back and finished with nine saves.
With plenty of opportunities of its own, F-M attacked hard, yet got nothing past B’ville goalie Caley Gee, who had seven saves. The Hornets’ record fell to 8-4 overall.
